John Leroy
Gonya, Sr.
John L. Gonya, Sr., of Billerica, formerly of Malden, died
Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Brighten of Medford Nursing Home in
Medford, he was 70. Born on May 5, 1940, John was raised and
educated in Skowhegan, Maine. He worked for many years in the
trucking industry. It brought to all parts of the country but
eventually down to Malden where he met his wife, Marie T.
Thibert. The couple was married on October 25, 1981 in Malden.
John and Marie lived for many years in Malden, raising and
caring for their family. John worked for many towing and long
distance trucking companies. He also worked for Mayflower
Moving Company as well as Roy Brother’s Trucking of Billerica
and Don’s Towing of Malden. John was a member of the Redman
Club in Stoneham. After many years in Malden, John and Marie
relocated to Billerica in 2003.
John is survived by his wife Marie T. (Thibert) Gonya of
Billerica, his children, David Gonya of TN, Cheryl Warner and
her husband, Andrew of Lowell, Theresa Hadley of Billerica, John
L. Gonya, Jr. of Billerica, Trish Eddy of NH, Carolyn Cuchinotta
of Melrose, and Dan Morelli of NH, and his thirteen
grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his
daughter, Kathleen R. Carr and his brother, Martin Gonya.
Visitation will be held in the Weir - MacCuish Golden Rule
Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Thursday, July 22,
2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
Interment services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s memory may be made
to the Home for Little Wanderers, 271 Huntington Ave. Boston, MA
