Edwin Lorimer Graves Jr.

Edwin
L. Graves Jr. died Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at his daughters home in
Bellingham. He was 78. Born in Melrose on February 24, 1930 the son of the late
Edwin L. Graves Sr. and Ruth E. (Solomon) Graves, Ed was a graduate of Malden
High School Class of 1948.
In July of 1949, Ed joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was schooled
at the Hospital Corps School Class A, in Bethesda, Maryland and later served as
a corpsman in Korea. He received the Korean Service Ribbon 3 Stars, United
Nations Service Medal, and was a recipient of a Purple Heart. Ed was later
discharged in San Diego, CA in April of 1953. When Ed returned to Malden he
continued his education at the Coyne Electrical School in Boston and became as
engineer.
In June of 1965 Ed married his sweetheart, Jean M. Morrison at the Centre United
Methodist Church. The couple remained in Malden and raised their daughter Amy.
Ed and Jean had been married over thirty-six years, until Jean suddenly passed
in October of 2001. Mr. Graves had lived in Malden for over 50 years.
Ed worked for the George L Slack Co./ Pritzker Associates as an engineer for over
forty years. He later became the president of the company. Ed never
officially retired but worked as a consultant, working with other electrical
contracting firms in the Boston area. In his spare time he enjoyed reading a
good novel and later watching his grandson Jared playing soccer for the local
Bellingham league. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy J. Beaudoin and her husband, Chris of
Bellingham, MA, his grandson Jared Beaudoin, his sisters Ruth Hiltz of Malden,
Susan Hatch of Moultonboro, NH and John Graves of Hampton, NH.
He was preceded in death by
his spouse Jean M. (Morrison) Graves, his father Edwin Graves, Sr., and his
mother Ruth E. Solomon.
At the request of his family,
visiting hours have been omitted.
Relatives and friends are
welcomed to attend a graveside service in the Forest Dale Cemetery, in Malden
on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 11:00 A.M.
