Irene Alvina
Griffin
Irene A. (Senchuck) Griffin passed away at home after a long
illness, she was 86 years old. Irene was born in Brockton, MA
on July 2, 1923 to Ignace and Bertha (Zielinski) Senchuck. The
family moved to Chelsea, MA shortly after her birth. Irene
graduated from Chelsea High School in 1941, where she achieved
the honor of Co-Captain of the Chelsea High School Cheering
Squad.
In addition to her daughter, Judith Griffin of Malden, she also
leaves two sons. She was preceded in death by her youngest and
only sister, Lorraine P. Francis, late of Malden. Irene was
cherished by her two nieces, Patricia A. Zola and her husband,
Andrew, and Gail M. Doherty and her husband, Henry, all of
Malden, and her favorite nephew, Peter J. Francis, Jr. and his
wife, Joan, of North Andover. She leaves two grand-nephews and
three grand-nieces, all of whom she took extraordinary pride
in. Irene also leaves her brother-in-law, Peter J. Francis, Sr.
of Malden. Irene leaves many, many great friends that she made
and kept throughout her life, and she leaves many wonderful
neighbors from her home in Maplewood, where she resided for 58
years.
After her children had grown, she went to work for the New
England Telephone Company as an information operator on Elm
Street in Malden; she retired after 19 years of service from
NYNEX. She was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of
America where some of her favorite times were their bi-annual
luncheons. Irene was fond of Las Vegas and loved the West
Yarmouth / Lewis Bay area of Cape Cod, where she spent many
summers with her family and friends.
Funeral from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144
Salem Street, Malden on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 9AM followed
by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church, 770 Salem
Street, Maplewood Square, Malden at 10 AM. Interment will
follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, next to her beloved sister.
Visitation
will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, January 24, 2010
from 4 to 8 PM.
