Mildred
Priscilla Gustafson
Mildred P. (Olson) Gustafson, died at the Saints
Memorial Medical Center in Lowell on Monday morning, July 26,
2010, Mildred was 92. Mrs. Gustafson was born on November 16,
1917 the daughter of the late Iver and Priscilla (Carlson)
Olson. She was educated in the Malden School system and was a
graduate of Malden High School Class of 1935 and two years
later a graduate of the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston.
In 1947 Mildred married her true
love John E. Gustafson. The couple was married for seven years
and had one son Warren E. Gustafson. John later passed in 1954.
Mildred was employed with the
Ingersoll Rand Company in Cambridge for three years. She later
took employment with the First National Bank of Boston as a data
processer, working for the next 26 years, on the third shift.
This left her home during the day to care for her son. Mrs.
Gustafson retired from the bank in 1982 and had been a resident
of Malden for the last sixty years.
In her spare time she enjoyed
gardening, reading a good novel, watching television and the
reality show “Dancing with the Stars”. Mildred and her son
Warren shared fond memories of their trip to New York to see
“The Camelot Play” at the theatre. A time Warren will never
forget.
Mildred enjoyed talking to
different people and could strike up a conversation with any
one, anywhere. She had a love for wearing high heels and would
be up and dressed at 6 AM while she was a resident at the
nursing home. Her two brothers, Kenneth and Earl were in the
same nursing home also. This gave her a good reason to be up and
ready, so she could keep an eye on her two brothers care. She
was a great lover of dogs and other animals.
She is survived by her devoted son
Warren E. Gustafson and his wife Valerie J. Gustafson of
Wilmington, her step–granddaughter Lauren K. Duffy of
Wilmington, her loving brothers Kenneth Olson and Earl Olson
both of Malden and many nieces & nephews and grandnieces and
grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her husband John E.
Gustafson and her brother Warren I. Olson formerly of Malden and
Medford.
Relatives and friends may call at the
Weir-Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden,
on Thursday, July 29, 2010 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A memorial
service celebrating her life will be held at 7 PM.
