Richard Dennis Hatch

 

 

 

Richard D. "Rick" Hatch, 77, of Everett, formerly of Malden,  died Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare of Melrose in Melrose.  He was born December 24, 1933 in Howland, Maine the son of John and Laura (Theriault) Hatch. Richard moved to Cambridge at the age of 6.  He graduated from Malden High with the Class of 1952.   He soon enlisted in the US Marines and served during the Korean Conflict.  He was discharged in 1955 having earned the rank of Sergeant.  He married his sweetheart, Mona G. Leawood in October of 1957, and the two settled down in Malden to raise their family.  Richard became a typewriter repairman for the Smith Corona Typewriter company in Boston.  His job kept him traveling around, and eventually the because of his job the family relocated to Maine.  He retired in 1995, and they returned to the Malden area.  They have been living in Everett for the past 14 years.   

Rick has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Malden for over 50 years.   He was a longtime member of the Oddfellows Club of Malden.  He also enjoyed bowling and had been a member of many different bowling leagues over the years.   Richard was mainly a homebody at heart though, especially the way his job made him travel, he enjoyed simply settling down once he got home. 

He is survived by his wife Mona G. (Leawood), his children,  Milan R.  Hatch  of Loveland, CO, Thomas R.  Hatch of Paterson, NJ, and Loralee A. Bailey of Inner Grove Heights, MN his sister, ,Jean MacDonnell  of Melrose, his brother, Gerald Hatch of Fitchburg,  7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.  

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John and  Laura Hatch, and his brother Stephan Hatch

Donations in Richards memory may be made to the Hallmark Health Hospice, 178 Savin Street, Suite 300, Malden, MA 02148. 

Funeral services will be held graveside, Oct 1st, 11 AM. at the Forest Dale Cemetery, 150 Forest Street,  in Malden.
