Leonard Walter Hughes

 

Leonard Walter Hughes,  81, a retired shipper for Doy & Engles, where he worked for 25 years, died Tuesday, August 11, 2009.  Leonard was born in Medford and educated in the Melrose school system. When he completed school he enlisted in the U.S.Army, serving  during the end of W.W. II and also during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in November of 1952.  Upon he discharge he entered the Army Reserve, where he served until 1960, when he was discharged as a Specialist 5.    He had gone  to work for Doy & Engles Chemical Co. of Everett where he was employed fore over twenty five years retiring at the age of sixty-two. He was a Life Member of Malden Post  # 85 DAV, the Sergeant Harold O. Young VFW Post 2394 0f Melrose and Malden VFW Post # 639.

He is survived by his brother, William H. Hughes, and Jr. of Malden, and his niece, Laura L, McLaughlin of NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents,  William and Laura (Gustafson) Hughes  Sr.

Funeral services will be held graveside in the Veteran's Lot at Wyoming Cemetery, 203  Sylvan Street, Melrose, MA.
