Ralph Wilson Kenty

 

     Ralph W. Kenty died Saturday evening February 21, 2009 at the Rosewood Nursing Center in Peabody. Ralph was 90 and was born on December 5, 1918 in Boston. He was the son of George & Lillian P. (Balch) Kenty.  Ralph was a graduate of Medford High School. After his graduation he worked different jobs one as a caddy traveling to Florida and later returning to the Medford area.. He once told his family that he caddied for the late great baseball legend, Babe Ruth and for his hard work he was paid 25 cents.

      Ralph joined the US Army in November of 1940.  In the winter of 1941, when Ralph was home from leave before shipping out to Europe, he would marry his sweetheart Arline M. Norton in the Immaculate Conception Rectory on December 31, 1941.  Ralph would leave for the war and not return for many years until his discharge in August of 1945.  Ralph and Arline started a family and stayed in Malden. The couple had been together for 65 years until Arline's passing in May of 2007.  

      Mr. Kenty  returned from the war and would later start a real estate and insurance business on Summer St., in Malden.  Ralph’s  business would later merge with  another firm and  be called  The Chesley and Kenty Insurance Agency Inc. The firm moved to the former Chesley Building on Dartmouth St. in Malden. 

      Ralph was a member of the Malden Housing Authority board, was a director of the YMCA, and an active member of the Malden Lions Club. He also served as the Past District Governor of the Lions Club and in other numerous capacities, including the office of King Lion. Ralph was very active in the City of Malden.  He served as the Chairman of the Board of the Pine Banks Park.  Ralph and his wife were longtime members and supporters of the Immaculate Conception Church in Malden.    

       Along with his wife Arline he helped raise their two granddaughters. He had a passion for owning and driving his Cadillac's.  He was an avid Boston & Malden sports fan holding the record for the most consecutive attendances at the Medford/ Malden Football rivalry every Thanksgiving Day. He loved and enjoyed the company of his dogs, Casey, Bubbles & Dusty.                                                                         

       Loving grandfather of   J. Paul Haney III and his wife Lauren of  Exeter, NH, Sean F. Haney and his wife Racelle of Andover, Jessica L. Kenty-Drane and her husband Paul of Woodbridge, CT, and Kate E. Kenty  of Boston.  Cherished great-grandfather of  J. Paul IV, Jared M., Gabrielle A. Haney, Samantha A. Drane, Patrick T., Jacqueline E., and Matthew R. Haney.

       Preceded  in death by his wife Arline M. (Norton) Kenty, his daughter  Alexandra M. Haney-Kelly, formerly of Reading and the late Ralph F. Kenty formerly of Malden.

Visitation will be held in the Weir - MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 24th..  from 4-8  PM.

      Funeral from the Weir-Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Wednesday., February  25,  2009    at 9:45 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 11AM.  Interment in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
