William  Edward Lavin

 

William  Edward Lavin, 68, a retired  firefighter for City of Cambridge, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at his home in Malden, with his family by his side. He was born January 8, 1943 in Cambridge, Massachusetts the son of Thomas and Doris (Loveys) Lavin. After competing his education in Cambridge, William enlisted in the US Marines to help our countries fight in the Viet Nam War.  Soon after his discharge, he married his sweetheart Judith A. Wall in St. Mary’s Church in Cambridge.  Bill joined the Cambridge Fire Dept, and served with the department for nearly 32 years, until his retirement in July of 2004.   Bill and Judy lived in Cambridge for about 10 years, before moving to Medford,  and then in 1987 they moved to Malden with their family.  The two shared nearly 45 years together.   Bill had a strong work ethic and aside from his duties as a firefighter, he always had one or two other part time jobs, including most recently being a driver for the Vocel Bus Company, a job he continued even after retiring from the fire department.  In his free time, he was an avid golfer who regularly went out every Sunday.    .  

He is survived by his wife Judith A(Wall) Lavin, his daughters, Ann Marie Giordano and husband Michael of Malden, Maureen Lavin of Malden, and  Elizabeth A.Willis III and husband Raymond of Melrose, his brother,  Thomas Lavin of Medford, his sister, Nancy  Ray of Cambridge, as well as seven grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and  Doris Lavin; his 2 sisters Carol Anderson and Ruth  Roy

Visitation will be at Weir - MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden,  on Thursday, Oct 27th,  from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM  

Funeral services will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden, on Friday, October 28th at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Josephs Church, 770 Salem Street, Malden, at 10AM.  Interment to follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. 

Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation, 540 Gallivan Boulevard Boston, MA 02124.
