Mary
Elizabeth MacCutcheon

Mary Elizabeth (Flaherty –Myers) MacCutcheon, a long-time
resident of Malden, died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the
Glenridge Nursing Home in Medford, she was 90. Born on
September 10, 1919 in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late
Thomas and Helen (Baker) Flaherty. Mary was raised and educated
in Chelsea and was a graduate of Chelsea High School with the
Class of 1937. After her graduation, Mary furthered her
education in the Boston City School of Nursing and graduated in
1941. Mary worked for many years as a nurse before taking
employment as the Public Health Nurse for the City of Chelsea.
After many years of dedicated service to the city, Mary retired
in 1977. Mary was married to Frederick P. Myers but he was
tragically lost at sea during World War II. While some people
only find love once, Mary was blessed to find love once again
and married Raymond M. MacCutcheon in July of 1945. Mary and
Raymond spent over 39 years in marriage together, raising and
caring for their family until Raymond’s passing in December of
1984.
Mary was a life-long member of the Boston City School of Nursing
Alumni Association. She was also a long time member and past
secretary for T.O.P.S.; a social weight loss club that was a
precursor to Weight Watchers. Mary was also a life-long member
of the D.A.V. of Everett. Mary enjoyed crocheting and reading.
Mary was a devoted member of St. Theresa’s in Everett and was
faithful to saying the Rosary on a daily basis.
Mary is survived by her son, Michael "Mac" MacCutcheon of
Woburn, her granddaughter, Kristin MacCutcheon, her grandson,
Michael MacCutcheon, II and his wife, Ashley, and her
great-grandchildren, Justin, Taylor Brady, and Nora. Mary was
also survived by her sister-in-law, Doris Flaherty, Salem, NH as
well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands and parents, Mary was preceded in
death by her siblings, Harold Flaherty, Anna Flaherty, and
Helena Flaherty-Leach.
Funeral from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144
Salem Street, Malden on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 8 AM
followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Church,
770 Salem Street, Malden at 9 AM. Burial will follow in the
Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, February
21, 2010 from 4 to 8 PM.
