Ms. Martha
Magnuson
Martha Magnuson, a life-long resident of Malden, passed away in
the Golden Living Center - Elmhurst Nursing Care Center in
Melrose on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, she was 93. Born on
March 6, 1918 in Malden, she was the daughter of the late Evald
and Martha (Bockelman) Magnuson. Martha was raised and educated
in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School with the
Class of 1936. After her schooling was complete, Martha went to
work for the Malden Savings Bank before taking employment with
the Boston Globe as a proofreader before becoming the assistant
to the editor of “Confidential Chat”. She worked for over forty
years for the Globe before her retirement.
Martha was a life long member of the Good Shepherd United
Methodist Church of Malden, formerly known as Christ United
Methodist Church. She was very musically gifted; Martha was an
accomplished accordion player, organist and pianist. Martha
loved music and even played the accordion for the Swedish Folk
Club in Boston, hosted by the Scandinavian Charitable Society.
Martha is
survived by two nieces and one great-nephew.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her
siblings, Theresa C. Johnson and Dr. Robert Magnuson.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in the
Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. Rev. Nizzi Digan, Pastor of Good
Shepherd United Methodist Church, will be officiating. Please
