Kevin Francis McCarthy

 

 

 

 

Kevin Francis McCarthy, 62, a   longtime resident of Malden, passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2010, in  Brigham and Womans Hospital, Boston.

 He was born in 1947 in Medford, MA,  the son of  and Timothy F. and Helen A. (Dullea) McCarthy.   He graduated from Medford High School with the class of 1967.  Kevin furthered his education by taking classes at UMass Boston.  In 1968,  he enlisted in the US Army to help our countries fight in Vietnam.  He served honorably until his discharge in 1970. 

Kevin soon began working as a social worker,  and after many years in the field, took employment with the states Department of Children and Families, a position he held for over 22 years until his passing.  In 1985, Kevin married his sweetheart, Karen M. Zaccardo, and the two settled down in Malden where they raised their family. 

Kevin loved to play softball, years ago playing locally in the C.B. League, and for many years was both player and coach of his team through work in the D.C.F. softball league.  He also enjoyed many other sports including tennis, flag football with his brothers, and playing golf with his son.  Even with all these activities, he was always content spending time at home with his family.

 He is survived by his wife Karen, his daughter Corinn M. and her husband Matthew B. Chadwell, of Swampscott,  his son Patrick K.  McCarthy of Malden, his sisters, Carol A. McCarthy of Everett and Maureen K. Nardone of Medford, his brothers, William E. McCarthy of MI, Timothy P. McCarthy of Winthrop, John J. McCarthy of Medford, Brian C. McCarthy of Saugus, and Michael McCarthy of FL, his granddaughters Emma and Ashlyn as well as  many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept 29th,  at 10:00 AM in the  Weir – MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden.

Visitation will be held at funeral home on Tuesday, Sept 28th,  from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
