"Ruth" McCarthy, Jr.

Laurie "Ruth"
(Likely) McCarthy, Jr., 80, retired bookkeeper and longtime
resident of Malden, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at
the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts.
Ruth was born in 1930 in Newton, the daughter of John and Helen
Likely. She was raised in Newton and graduated from Newton High
with the class of 1948. After high school, she began working as
a bookkeeper for Sears. In Sept of 1959, she and John J.
McCarthy Jr. Were married. They then moved to Malden to raise
their family. Ruth and John shared 46 years together until Johns
passing in 2005. After moving to Malden she began working for
the tool manufacturing company, H.K. Porters, as a bookkeeper.
She worked there until 1990 when she retired.
She is
survived by her daughter, Joanne McCarthy of Malden, her sons,
John D. and wife Debbie McCarthy of Londonderry, NH, and Thomas
and wife Kelly McCarthy of Stoneham, her sisters, Irene Likely
of Waltham, and Dorothy Fiegbig of Melrose, and her
grandchildren, John and Allyson of NH, Paul, Shannon, and
Christopher of Andover, and Tyler of Stoneham.
Ruth was
preceded in death by her husband John J. McCarthy Jr, her son
Paul McCarthy, her daughter, Laurie A. McCarthy, her parents,
John and Eleanor "Helen"(Inman) Likely, and her brother, John
Likely.
Visitation
will be at Weir - MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem
Street, Malden, on Monday, June 20th, from 4:00 PM
to 8:00 PM
Funeral
services will be held Tuesday, June 21, from the funeral home at
11AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Josephs
Church, 770 Salem Street, Malden, at 12Noon. Interment to
follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden
