Claire Marie McLellan

     Claire M. (Keegan) McLellan,   died Tuesday morning,   November 10, 2009 at the Golden Living Center, in Malden, she was 85. Claire was born October 17, 1924 the daughter of the late Richard P. & Mary F. (Flynn) Keegan.  She was educated in the Brookline school system and was a graduate of Brookline High School Class of 1942.  

     After graduation,   she worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston with the Bond Department for few years. Claire worked at the A& P Supermarket in Malden. She later worked as a secretary in the nursing supervisor’s office of the New England Medical Center in Boston for ten years.

     Claire met her true love Donald A. McLellan at the wedding of his brother, Robert McLellan.  They shared their first dance that night and later became a couple. They were married on February 15, 1947 at St. Mary’s Church in Brookline and later settled in Malden to raise their two daughter’s Chrissie & Bonnie.   They  shared fifty years together until Donald’s passing in October of 1997.   

     Claire was active in her community and her neighborhood. She was a longtime member and Past President of the Maplewood Highlands Improvement Association, in the 1970's which sought to prevent overbuilding in Malden.  In her spare time she enjoyed knitting sweaters, sunbathing in her back yard, reading a good novel and working a crossword puzzle. She also enjoyed talking politics. 

     She is survived by her daughters Christine M. McLellan, Barbara A. Maxwell and her husband Joseph E. Maxwell all of Malden. She was the cherished grandmother of Ian J. Maxwell and his wife Jennifer of Durham, NH, Casey A. Maxwell of Revere, and Andrew E. Maxwell of Malden.

She was preceded in death by her brother Richard W. Keegan formerly of Malden & Brookline.

     Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in the Weir-Mac Cuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden on Thursday, November 12, 2009 from   4-8 PM

    Claire’s funeral will be held from the Weir- Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden,  on Friday,   November 13, 2009 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in  St. Josephs Church, 770 Salem St.,  Malden,  at 10 AM.

     Interment & burial service will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA  at 2:45 PM.  Contributions in Claire’s memory maybe made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA  01701-376.
