Shirley Louise Meuse

 

     Shirley L.  Meuse, a longtime resident of Malden, died Sunday evening April 26, 2009 surrounded by her loving family at home, she was 76.  Born on August 20, 1932 in Reading, MA she was the daughter of the late Joseph L & Margaret (Fitzgerald) Meuse.

     Shirley was raised and educated in Reading. She was a graduate of Reading High School with the Class of 1949.  At the age of twelve, she was introduced to her future husband to be, Jack Meuse.  They had a long courtship and finally married on February 4, 1951. The couple moved to Wakefield for a few years.  They later moved to Malden and started a family, raising three boys and three girls.  The couple shared fifty-six years together until Jack’s passing in November of 2007.

     After caring for her children, Shirley worked for the John Hancock Insurance Company of Boston as a bookkeeper for the next 17 years.  She would later retire in 1997.  She also worked part time at the Auld New Lounge in Malden.  Shirley was always caring for her family but found the time to be a volunteer and chairman  of a cancer drive through the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.  She was a longtime volunteer with the Toys for Tots Campaign and the Home for Little Wanders in Boston. Shirley also volunteered her time at the Holmes School in Malden teaching the young children to read.  Shirley and Jack were longtime members of Sacred Hearts Church in Malden.

     Shirley enjoyed taking cruises with Jack and her visits to Atlantic City, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Foxwoods.  She was a member of the S & S Casino Tours.

In her spare time, she enjoyed reading a good novel, doing needle crafts and loved cooking and baking and spending time with all her family.

     She is survived by her son, John  A. Meuse and his wife  Nancy  of Billerica, Stephen  R. Meuse of Maine, Cheryl A. Stifano and her husband Louis of Medford, Janet  C. Crowe and her husband Brian of Methuen, Michael W. Meuse of New Hampshire, and Donna L. Dingle and her husband John of Melrose. Shirley was the cherished grandmother of twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and her loving sister Carol Melanson of New Hampshire.

     She was preceded in death by her husband John “Jack” H. Meuse, her father Joseph Meuse, her mother Margaret Fitzgerald, her siblings Beatrice Fitzgerald, Richard Muise, Christine Meuse, Gladys Brown and Robert Meuse.

Friends and relatives may call at the Weir - MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 from 4-8 PM.

     Funeral will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144  Salem St., Malden  on Thursday,  April 30, 2009 at 9 AM,  followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church, 297 Main St., Malden at 10AM.  Interment to follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
