Beulah May
Parris, 88, a retired salesperson for Filene’s Basement, where
she worked for years, died Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the
Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford. She was born in
January of 1923, the daughter of Moses and Elizabeth
Franklin.
Beulah raised
and educated in Chelsea. After completing high school, she
first took employment with Malden Knitting Mills. She left to
work at Filenes Basement in the Jewelry department, a position
she held for many years. Even after retiring from Filene’s, she
took a part time position at the Chelsea Solders Home to keep
busy. In February of 1944, married
sweetheart, Bert W. Parris and the two settled down in
Malden together. They shared many wonderful years
together raising their family until Bert's passing in 1995.
Beulah was a long time active member of Elks Lodge of Everett,
where she served as Past Grand Daughter Ruler, among many other
positions within the club. She enjoyed knitting
and crocheting, playing pinochle, and traveling with friends.
She also was an avid collector of elephants.
She is
survived by her children, Claire Marshall of Malden, Sheila
White of Everett, Bert W. Parris Jr. of Philadelphia, PA, Linda
Lockett of Malden, Yvonne Parris of Albuquerque, NM, and Denise
Chisolm of Los Angelas, CA, as well as 16 grandchildren and many
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Beulah was
preceded in death by her husband Bert, her daughters Gwendlyn
McMillon and Donna M. Parris, and her parents, Moses and
Elizabeth Franklin, and her sisters,
Lucille Franklin,
Pearl Franklin, Ruth Ruth Franklin, and Elizabeth Franklin, and
her brothers, David Franklin and Moses Franklin Jr..
Visitation
will be at Weir - MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street,
Malden, on Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
All other
services will be private.
