Mr.
Arthur Junior Schulze
Arthur
Junior Schulze, 89, a retired firefighter for City of
Malden, where he worked for 32 years, died Tuesday,
October 18, 2011 at his home in Londonderry, New
Hampshire.
He was
born July 24, 1922 in Malden, Massachusetts the son of
Arthur G. and Edith M. (Linsott) Schulze. Arthur was
raised and educated in Malden, graduating from Malden
High with the Class of 1941. He then enlisted in the US
Army where he helped our countries fight in WWII. He
served in Europe and North Africa and saw action in
parts of Italy including Naples and Rome. He was
discharged in 1945 having attained the rank of Teck 5.
In 1947, he and his sweetheart, Barbara L. Prince were
married in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Malden. They
then settled down in Malden to raise their family. The
two shared 62 years together until Barbara's passing in
2009. Arthur had joined the Malden Fire Dept, first
working in the Central Fire Station before moving to the
Maplewood Fire Station. He was with the fire department
for 32 years until his retirement.
Arthur
was a avid baseball player, and had played for the US
Army team while on active duty, and for many years was
the star pitcher for the American Legion team in
Malden. With his family being his priority, Arthur
turned down many offers from professional baseball
teams. He also enjoyed playing basketball, and even
as he got older, continued to play at the YMCA. He was
also an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling in years past.
Arthur
and Barbara enjoyed traveling and camping all over the
country and Canada in their camper, something the whole
family would do every summer. They also traveled all
across Europe after Arthurs retirement.
He is
survived by his daughters, Dorothy E. Busi and husband
Robert of Malden, Carol L. Curtis of NH, Nancy J.
Mancino and husband Alfred of Hampstead, NH, Joan E.
Julianello and husband Anthony of Londonderry, NH, her
brothers Avis McLennan of Laconia, NH, and Robert
Schulze of Saugus, MA, as well as 8 grandchildren, 9
great-grandchildren, and 57 Foster Children.
Arthur
was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents
Arthur G. and Edith M. Schulze; his brothers Alfred
Schulze and Frank Schulze; his sisters Ruth Lombard
and Marion Rush, and his grandson, Jason LaValle,
and his son-in-law Frank Curtis.
Visitation will be at the Weir – MacCuish Golden Rule
Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden, on Thursday,
Oct 20th, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
Funeral services will be held from the Weir MacCuish
Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden on Fri,
Oct 21st, at 9AM followed by funeral services
at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 26 Washington St, Malden
at 10AM. Interment to follow in Forest Dale Cemetery,
Malden.
