Agnes May Surette

 

Agnes May (Buttlar) Surette, 95, a  longtime resident of Malden, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Ellis Nursing and Rehab Center in Norwood, MA.  She was born January 21, 1916 in Dedham, MA,  the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Ringler) Buttlar. She was raised and educated in Dedham, and graduated from Dedham High School with the class of 1934.  She married Kenneth G. Lake and the two settled down in Malden in 1937 to raise their family. Sadly, Kenneth passed away in 1956, but Agnes later found love again and she and Josh I. Surrette were married.  They shared many wonderful years together until Josh's passing in 1981. 

Agnes worked for many years as a Sales Associate for Woolworths in Malden.  She had also worked at Transitron in Malden, assembling diodes at the manufacturing plant.  Agnes was a long time active member of the Centre United Methodist Church of Malden, now called the Good Shepherd Methodist Church.    She regularly volunteered her time with the church with their different functions and events.  She was a member of the Women’s Society of the Centre Methodist Church, and a member of Rebecca’s Lodge #99 of Malden. She had also been a volunteer at the Dexter House Nursing Home with a group from the Mystic Side Congregational Church in Malden.    

 She is survived her daughter,  Dorothy Lake-Winders of CA, her son,  Kenneth G. Lake Jr. of Malden, her brother, Edward Buttlar of  IN,  her grandchildren, Kimberly, Karen, Luellen, a Kenneth.Lake III, and 4 great grandchildren, and her dear niece and nephew Cynthia Masciarelli and G. Robert Brauer who also served as her caregivers, as well as many other nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grandnephews across the country.

Agnes was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth G. Lake Sr, her second husband Josh I. Surette,  her parents,  Robert and Elizabeth Buttlar;  her daughter Jacqueline Mae Lake; her 2 brothers Harold L. Buttlar and  Robert G.J. Buttlar; her 4 sisters, Dora A. Brauer,  Mildred E. Buttlar,   Louise C. Linnekan, and Elizabeth G. Luce

Visitation will be at Weir - MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Tuesday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and 7:00PM to 9:00 PM.  

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 22nd, at 11:00at the Weir - MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home   Burial will be in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
