Muriel
Bernice Tuck
Muriel B. (McLean) Tuck of Billerica, formerly a long-time
resident of Melrose, died Monday, July 20, 2009 in the Life Care
Center of Merrimack Valley in Billerica, she was 98. Born in
the Roslindale section of Boston on September 9, 1910, she was
the daughter of the late James A. and Elizabeth E. (Russell)
McLean. Muriel moved to Melrose at an early age with her
parents and siblings. She was raised and educated in Melrose
and was a graduate of Melrose High School with the Class of
1926. On June 13, 1936, Muriel married her sweetheart, George
R. Tuck in the Maplewood Methodist Church of Malden. Once the
couple was married, they settled briefly in Malden before moving
to Wakefield for a short while. Eventually, Muriel and George
settled in Melrose and spent over 63 years together in marriage,
raising and caring for their family, until George’s passing in
August of 1999. In addition to being a dedicated mother, wife,
and homemaker, Muriel was a dedicated and devoted member of the
Christ United Methodist Church in Malden, having been a member
since she was nine years old. Muriel was a former member of the
OTT Club and she helped out the sewing club along with the
arts and crafts. Making and selling their craft designs helped
out in the church funding. Muriel had lived in Billerica for
the past thirteen years but was previously a resident of Melrose
for over fifty years.
Muriel is survived by her sons, James R. Tuck and his wife, Anne
of Florida and Richard K. Tuck and his wife, Sharon J. of
Billerica, her nine grandchildren, Rick Tuck, Sherrie and her
husband, John Ahern, and Jay Tuck, all of Billerica, Cyndie
Barnes, Brenda and her husband Steve Fredericks, John Tuck and
his wife Kate, Loretta and her husband, Peter Nagy, Mary Nieman,
and Matthew Tuck and his fiancée, Caitlyn, all of Florida,
sixteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren,
as well as her nieces, Beth Carmody of Maine and Barbara
Anderson of Medford.
In addition to
her husband and parents, Muriel was preceded in death by her,
siblings, Donald W. McLean, James L. McLean, and Thelma Johnson.
A funeral service for Muriel will be held in the Weir-MacCuish
Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Thursday,
July 23, 2009 at 11AM. Rev. Ruth R. Oduor, Pastor of Good
Shepherd United Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial
will follow in the Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
Visitation
will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, July 22, 2009
from 7 to 9 PM.
