Eve Marie Ward

     Eve Marie Ward died suddenly in Melrose, on Tuesday morning, June 15, 2010. Eve Marie was born on June 12, 1939 in Salem, MA   the second child of late Thomas and Eva J. (Stempleskwa) Ward.  Eve Marie was educated in St. Josephs Academy in Brighton.

     Eve Marie continued her schooling at St. Frances Hospital School of Nursing in Hartford, CT and received a Diploma in Nursing in 1960, Simmons College in Boston with a Baccalaureate of Arts in Nursing in 1970 and Yale University School of Nursing in New Haven CT. with a Master of Science in Maternal-Newborn Nursing with a Certificate in Nurse Midwifery in 1972. Eve Marie was a Nun with the Third Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Teresa of Jesus for four years.

     Eve Marie had a long career as a nurse midwife, first at the Jacobi Hospital, Department of Obs/Gyn in the Bronx, NY  from June 1972- May 1975. She was an Instructor Maternal-Newborn Gynecological Nursing at Cheshire Hospital School of Nursing in Keene, NH from 1975-1976. Eve Marie  was a nurse midwife at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston from 1978- 1980, nurse midwife at the Women and Infant’s Hospital in Providence, RI  from 1980-1981. Eve Marie was a nurse midwife at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven, CT 1986-1987.  She was the Educational Coordinator MCH at the Malden Hospital, Malden, MA from  September 1987-July 1990  and a midwife at the Harvard Community Health Plan in Boston from 1990-1994. Eve Marie was last employed at the Bunker Hill Community College, in Charlestown as a Health Professor teaching nursing education to new nursing students. After Eve Marie’s long working career she spent her spare time doing volunteer work in the Malden area and at Rosie’s Place and Pine St. Inn in Boston.  Eve Marie had been a resident of Malden for the last twenty years. 

     Eve Marie is survived by her brother’s  Thomas J. Ward and his wife Priscilla of Hancock, NH and Robert F. Ward and wife Cheryl of Kennebunk, ME. Eve was also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

     Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to visiting hours on Tuesday, June 22, 2010  from 7-9PM. Contributions in Eve Marie’s memory may be made to Rosie’s Place, 889 Harrison Ave. Boston, MA  02118.

     Funeral will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden,  on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at 10AM followed by a  Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church, 290 Main St, Malden, at 11AM. For directions and obituary: www.weirfuneralhome.com
