Harley William Waite

Harley William Waite,  82, a  machinist &  glassblower for Sim Core Product, where he worked for  years, died Friday, September 08, 2000 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts.  Harley was born  and raised in Vermont.  He moved to Malden in 1949 with his wife Zetta (Gilman), where he lived for the next 30 years.  During this time, he worked for Sim Core Product and American Aluminum in Malden as a Machinist and Glass Blower.   He went on to work at Charles River Park in Boston, performing building mainenance.  He left Malden to move to Saugus, where he stayed.  He was an active member of the Calvary Temple Assembly of God in Lynnfield. 

He is survived by his wife Zetta, sons Harley W. Waite Jr. of Beverly and Robert A. Waite  of Danvers, daughters Janet M. Twombley of Melrose and Carol A. Waite of Malden, and sister  Gladys Barden  of Pittsfield.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Waite, and his mother, Babette Stott, Sister Grace Christian , brother John Waite , and sister Lillian Baker.

He was born June 02, 1918 in Benson, Vermont the son of William and Babette (Stott) Waite.     

Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home on Sunday from 7-9 PM, with a prayer service at 9:00 PM. 

 A graveside service will be held on Friday, Sept. 15th, at 10:00 AM, in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. 

Gary Stephen Clough

Gary Stephen Clough,  58, a  machinist for J.J.T. Engineering of Wilmington, MA, where he worked for 20 years, died suddenly Saturday, September 2, 2000 at  the  Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA.  Gary was born in Melrose, MA  and  was a resident in Malden, MA  before moving to NH.  He was a graduate of Malden High School Class  of 1959.  He attended Wentworth Institute for 2 years.  Formerly of Malden, Gary had been   a  resident of  Windham, NH for the last 30 years.

He is survived by his son, Adam C. Clough of Windham, NH, his father, Theodore F. Clough, his mother, Margaret I. (Ingli) Clough of Malden, MA

He was preceded in death by Patricia  A.  Barriss (Sister).

He was born November 5, 1941 in Melrose,  MA, Massachusetts the son of Theodore and Margaret (Inglis) Clough.     

Visitation  has been omitted 

Funeral services will be held on  Tuesday, September 5, 2000 at 12:00 noon at the  Weir -MacCuish  Golden Rule Funeral Home. The Rev. Charlene  Johnson of  The First Church in Malden, Congregation will be officiating.  Interment in Forest Dale Cemetery at a later date. 

Roy Di Cicco 

Roy  Di Cicco,  77, a retired cloth cutter for Classic Sports Wear of  Boston, where he worked for 20 years, died Thursday, August 31, 2000 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, MA  after a short illness. Roy was born & educated in E. Boston and loved to go to the horse races with his son Roy Jr.  He also loved to watch old western movies and take long  walks. In his early years he enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox  games. He loved and adored his wife and took pride in watching the achievements &  accomplishments of his children.  Mr. Di Cicco  was a resident of  Winthrop, MA for 8 years and was previously from  East Boston.

He is survived by his wife Nancy (Noe) DiCicco, Rosemary  Di Cicco (Daughter) of CT, Roy Di Cicco  Jr. (Son) of Malden, Nancy Di Cicco (Daughter) of Ayer, MA, Robyn Sesser (Daughter-in-law) of  Malden, Britny Di Cicco (Granddaughter), Tracey Di Cicco (Granddaughter). 

He was born October 22, 1922 in  Boston, Massachusetts.      

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 1, 2000 at  2:00 P.M. at Weir-Mac Cuish  Funeral Home. Rev. Harvey Smith will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.

Alma Angelina Morando

Alma A. Morando,  76, a  homemaker, died Thursday, August 31, 2000 at the Normandy Senior Care Center in Melrose, MA.   Alma was born and educated in Haverhill, MA.  At the age of nineteen, she  married James J. Morando Sr. and  later moved to Malden. She had  been a resident of  Malden for the last 57 years. At one time, Alma was a former semi-professional singer. She also worked at the Charlestown Navy Yard as a nurses aid.

She is survived by a son, Salvatore   Morando  of Malden, and his wife Beverly  M., a son  James J. Morando Jr.  of  Swampscott, and his wife  Louise  D., a daughter,  Catherine M. Morando  of  Wilmington, and her fiance’ Michael J. Maher and  two  special friends, Todd Daly and Jeff   Munro.  Grandmother of   David  Colclough, Sean  Colclough, Alison  Colclough, Amy  Morando, April     Morando, Nicholas  Morando, James  Morando III and Christina  Morando and great-grandson  Anthony S. Morando.

She was preceded in death by her husband James J. Morando Sr., her father, Dominic Yuele, and her mother, Catherine (Lucia).

She was born April 4, 1924 in Haverhill, MA the daughter of Dominic and Catherine (Lucia) Yuele.

Visitation will be held at  the Weir- MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Friday, from 4-9 PM

  In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Assoc.,  275 Turnpike St.,  Suite 201,   Canton,  MA  02021

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 2nd. At the Maplewood Baptist Church with   Pastor Joseph DeCosta  officiating.  Entombment will be in the Holy Cross Mausoleum in Malden.

Alice Mary Cox

Alice Mary Cox,  90, a retired legal secretary,  died Sunday, August 27, 2000 at Dexter House Nursing Home, in Malden, MA  Alice was  born in Boston, and  moved to Malden, MA at a early age. Ms. Cox had  been a resident in Malden for over  75 years. Alice was a legal Secretary for a Boston Law Firm for over 25 years.  She was a member of  St. Joseph's Church in Malden for many years.  Ms. Cox  loved to paint and was a accomplished artist. She at one time was awarded 2nd prize at the Malden Guild of Artists. She was a graduate of Malden High School and  attend Fisher Business College  in Somerville, MA

Alice died at the Dexter House  Nursing Home in Malden after a long illness.

She is survived  by  2 sisters, Mary  E. Vreneck  of  Dorchester, and  Helen M. (Hogan) Cox  of  Malden, MA.

She was born July 31, 1910, in Boston, MA

Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM

A Mass  of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Josephs Church, 770 Salem St., Malden, on Thursday, August 31st.,  at  9AM.   Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield, MA.

                               William Rubbico

William Rubbico, 78, a retired electronic technician, died Saturday, August 26, 2000 at Saints Memorial Hospital in Lowell, Massachusetts.  William was born and educated in East Boston and after completing school enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served as a ship fitter 3rd Class in the European African and Middle Eastern Theater during W.W.II.  When he returned to Boston after his discharge he became an electronics technician for Raytheon of Waltham where he was employed for thirty -three years until his retirement in 1986. He was a communicant at St. Mary's Church in Revere and an avid bowler.  Mr. Rubbico lived in Malden, Massachusetts for forty- four years and was previously from East Boston.

 He is survived by his wife Theresa I. (Cecere) Rubbico his daughter Joanne Medeiros of FL, his daughter, Dianne Aceto of Tewksbury, his son, William Rubbico of Swampscott, his sisters, Mary Joslin of TN, Dorothy Rogers of Peabody, and Anna Romano of East Boston.

 He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Rubbico, Jerome Rubbico, Silvio Rubicco and his sisters, Rose Jenkins, and Antonitta Rubbico.

 He was born August 24, 1922 in Boston, Massachusetts the son of the late Anthony and Theresa (Colintino) Rubbico. 

 Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street Malden on Tuesday from 5-9 PM

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 30th, at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, 600 Washington St., Revere with the Rev. Father William L. Butler Pastor of St. Mary's Church officiating.  Entombment will follow in the Holy Cross Mausoleum in Malden.

                   Francis L “Frank” Romano

Francis L. "Frank " Romano,  64, a retired manager for Norelco, died Friday, August 25, 2000 at his home in Malden, Massachusetts after a lengthily illness.  Frank was born and educated in Boston and after graduating from high school enlisted in the U.S. Army. He severed in the U.S. Army Infantry in Germany during the Korean Conflict in the armored division.  When he was discharged he went to work for Raytheon of Waltham for a brief period. He then became the manager of sales and service for Norelco of Boston where he worked until his retirement in 1991. He then worked part time for Northgate Mobile in Maplewood Square until it’s closing. He was an active member of St. Joseph's Church where he was a member of the Men's Club, Boy Scout Leader and was well known for his cooking for different functions at the church.  Mr. Romano lived in Malden, Massachusetts for the past twenty-nine years and was previously from Boston.

He is survived by his wife Barbara A. (Coolidge) Romano, his son Stephen M. & his wife Donna Marie Romano of Rowley, his son, Michael A. Romano of Malden, his sister, Anna Ventola of Boston and his brother, Joseph Romano of Malden, his brother, Leo Romano of E. Boston and his grandsons Nicholas & Joseph Romano of Rowley.

He was preceded in death by his brother John Romano of Saugus, and his sister, Vita Romano of Boston.

He was born January 11, 1936 in Boston, Massachusetts the son of the late Liborio and Rose (Indelicato) Romano.

Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Monday from 5-9 P.M.

                         Helen Muriel Gleason

Helen Muriel (James) Gleason, 92, a retired bookkeeper,died Tuesday, August 22, 2000 at Jefferson Health Center in Arlington, Virginia. She was born in Boston, MA and educated in Malden School system. After completing schooling Helen worked as a bookkeeper for a Real Estate corporation in Boston. Helen had been a resident of Malden, until moving to Arlington, VA 35 years ago. 

She is survived by three sisters, Dorothy M. Ward of Malden, MA, Grace G. Armsden of Maine and Phyllis E. King of Maine. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward G. Gleason Hall, her daughter Janice M. Gleason, her sister, Lilly Gallant formerly of Saugus and her brothers; Theodore N., Kenneth I., and Henry L. James all formerly of Malden. 

She was born March 09, 1908 in Boston, Massachusetts the daughter of the late Reginald and Ethel (Hall) James. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 26, 2000 at 10:00 A.M. at the Weir - Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem ST. Malden with the Rev. Larry Taylor of Calvary Baptist Church of Toms River, NJ officiating. Burial will be in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.

Cecil Leslie Mc Millan

Cecil Leslie Mc Millan, 77, a retired stationary engineer for Middlesex County Sheriffs Dept., where he worked for 15 years, died Friday, August 18, 2000 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford, Massachusetts. Cecil was born and educated in Willow Lake, South Dakota. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy, where he served aboard the USS North Carolina for most of WWII. He farmed in SD for about 5 years after the war, until he move to the Boston area, living in Saugus before finally settling in Malden. With a strong work ethic, he routinely held two jobs, most recently working as a Stationary Engineer for both Amtrack and the Middlesex County Sheriffs Dept, until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the the Lodge of Sterling AF & AM, the Alleppo Temple, adn the Royal Arch. He also maintained close ties with his shipmates from the USS N.Carolina. Mr. Mc Millan lived in Malden, Massachusetts for the past 32 years.

He is survived by his wife Beverly, son Wayne L. Mc Millan of Salsbury, MA, Daughters Nancy E. Fucci of Salem, NH, Barbara A. Surles of Sheffield, VT, & Cynthia L. Bennett of Lynn, son Emery L. Haskell of Malden, Sister Marcella Matherly of Indiana, amd brothers Glen Mc Millan of Minnisota, Milo Mc Millan, & Donald Mc Millan both of Washington.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Mc Millan, and his mother, Ellen (Donnelly) , and brother Delbert Mc Millan.

He served in the Navy during World War II having attained the rank of Electicians Mate 3rd Clas. Enlisted on January 14, 1944 at South Dakota Discharged on November 3, 1946 at Annapolis MD .

Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM

Janet Forti

Janet Forti, , a corsetiere  for Sears, where she worked for 10 years, died Monday, August 14, 2000 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts. Janet was born February 18, 1916 in Mattawamkeag, Maine the daughter of Solomon and Albea (Michaud) Beaulieu and moved to Chelsea at an early age. She was raised and educated there, attending the St. Rose School. She was an avid bowler, and also enjoyed knitting and reading. Mrs. Forti lived in Malden, with her husband Charles for over 50 years.

She is survived by her husband Charles, daughter, Janine C. Donald of Malden, sisters Anita Buckley of Chelsea, Dorothy Lanzillo of Chelsea, Cecile Dello Iancano of Hyde Park, and Rita Hamel of Woburn, brother Solomon Beaulieu of Danvers, and grandchildren Janet Puleio of Saugus and Scott Donald of Malden.

She was preceded in death by her father, Solomon Beaulieu, and her mother, Albea Michaud, and brother Robert Beaulieu.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 17, 2000 at 9:00 A.M. at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home. Rev. John A. Daly, Pastor of St. Joseph's Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.

Roy Elmer Lonnberg

   Roy Elmer Lonnberg, 81, a retired sales manager died Sunday, August 6th, at the Salem Hospital in Salem, Ma. Roy was born in Everett and educated in Malden Schools. When WWII broke out he enlisted in the US Army serving in Pacific Theater. When he was discharged he became a sales manager for Browning Laboratories of Winchester until moving to Corcord, NH in 1953. He was then employed at the Richard D. Drew Co of Concord, NH and retired from Sylvania of Hillsboro, NH as their general sales manager in 1981. He was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Concord, NH, William Parkman Lodge AF & AM of Winchester, The Concord Country Club and the Ft. Lauderdale Country Club.  Mr. Lonnberg lived in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for the past  5 years and had previously resided in Corcord, NH for 45years and was formerly from Malden, MA.

 He is survived by his son, Donald R. Lonnberg of Medford, his daughter, Janice Broderick of PA,  five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

 He was preceded in death, by his wife, Marion L. (Bartlett) Lonnberg.

He was born July 26, 1919 in Everett, Massachusetts the son of the late Knut and Rebecca (Magnusson) Lonnberg.     

 Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, MA on Wednesday from 4-8 P.M.

                       C. Russell Blomerth

C. Russell Blomerth, 79, a retired general contractor, died Saturday, August 5th at the Woodbriar Rehabilitation Center in Wilmington, MA.. Russell was born and educated in Malden and after completing high school he attended Wentworth Institute for two years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Naval Air Corp during WW II and upon his discharge received his degree in Civil Engineering from U. Mass. Amherst. He then established the C. Russell Blomerth Company of Malden, remodeling and building homes in the greater Malden area, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist of Malden and also of the Mother Church of Boston.  He was a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Davenport Home of Malden and the Malden Rotary Club of Malden.  Mr. Blomerth was a lifelong resident of Malden, MA

He is survived by his wife Grace L. (Hill) Blomerth of Malden, his son, Geoffrey R. Blomerth of N.Y., his son, Alan G. & his wife Linda N. Blomerth of Reading his sister, Constance V. Willey of Malden and his grandsons; Brian A., Michael G., Paul M., Erik J. and Daniel J. Blomerth all of Reading,

He was born May 12, 1921 in Malden, Massachusetts the son of the late Clarence and Edith (Prudell) Blomerth.

                             John Angus Buchanan

 John Angus Buchanan,  97, died Thursday, August 3rd at the  Mc Fadden Memorial Manor in Malden, MA. John was born and educated in Bradalbane, Prince Edward Island, Canada and came to the United States in his late teens. He resided in Boston until his marriage when he settled in Malden where he has resided for over 77 years. He was employed as a cabinet maker for Bogart Cabinet Makers and Thompson Spa of Boston before going to work for St. Elizabeth's Hospital of Boston as their Carpentry Shop foreman retiring in 1968. He was a member of the Centre United Methodist Church of Malden. 

 He is survived by his daughters, Genevieve M. Kelly of Melrose, Mary E. Favorat of Melrose, Jean A. Farrell of CA a son, John M. Buchanan of Melrose and two brothers  Hugh and Alex Buchanan of Canada. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. 

 He was preceded in death by his wife Florence M. (Boates) Buchanan.       

 He was born September 30, 1902 in Bradalbane, Prince Edward Island, Canada  the son of the late Malcolm and Mary (Nicholson) Buchanan.     

 Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden  on Sunday from 7-9 PM

 Private Family Funeral services will be held Monday, August 7th at the  Weir - Mac Cuish  Funeral Home with the Rev. John C. Blair of the Centre United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will be in the Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.

                   Olive Marie Faulkner

Olive Marie Faulkner, 80, a candy processer for Schrafts Candy, where she worked for 20 years, died Sunday, July 30, 2000 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts. Olive was born in Du Bois, PA. , in the same town her parents were born. At the age of 8 she moved to Everett, where she was raised and educated. After working for Schrafts Candy for over 20 years, she went to work at Fox Cross Candy, until her retirement in 1980. She was an avid swimmer, and also enjoyed ice and roller skating, as well as bowling. Her other pastimes included her favorite game Yatzee. Miss Faulkner lived in Malden, Massachusetts for the past 35 Years.

She is survived by Very Dear Friend, Harmon R. Tate of Malden, Sisters, Ione Neale & Ruth Hussey of Melrose, and Ethel Parent of Glendale, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Faulkner, and her mother, Myrtle Stoddard, brothers, Edward Faulkner , James Faulkner, and William Faulkner, and sisters Margaret Boyer and Grace Polito .

Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM

Dawn Marie Zammuto

                                                           

Dawn M. (Grusel) Zammuto  “ Aunie Goose”,  44, died Monday morning, July 24th., 2000 at her home in Danvers, MA,  after a long illness.  Dawn  was a  life long resident of  Malden and had lived in Danvers for the last 2 years. She was a graduate of Malden High School Class of 1974 and  Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown, MA. Ms. Zammuto was   an  account  consultant for Sprint  (Telecommunications Co.) in Woburn, MA for the last 15 years until her illness. She loved to go camping with her family at Twin Mountains in  the Carroll County area of  N.H. She  loved to attend all the sporting events that  her niece and nephews were involved with.  She was a fitness enthusiast and loved to go to the gym. She  also loved  the U2 Band and even went to Ireland to see one of  their performances.  She adored her two cats, Cuddles & Lucky. Each one of her five nephews and one niece were very special to her.  She truly loved her whole family and  will be sadly missed by everyone, especially  her daughter Lynn Zammuto,  and her nephews and  niece. 

 She is survived by her  Daughter, Lynn M. Zammuto  of  Danvers, Mother, Ann A. (Poirier) Brett and her husband Kenneth C. Brett of  North  Weymouth, MA, Father George Grusel and his wife Ruth both of Florida, Sister, Lynne A. Cavaretta  of  Sanford, ME, Sister, Susan  A. Mahoney of  Malden, MA, Grandmother, Rita A. Poirier of  Malden, MA, She is also survived by  five nephews  &  one niece and many  aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather Yvon A. Poirier.

She was born July 21, 1956 in Chelsea, MA

                                           Frances Hirsh

Frances  Hirsh,  75, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at the Dexter House Nursing Home in Malden, MA after a short illness.  Mrs. Hirsh  was born in Malden, MA  and was educated  in the Chelsea school system  and was a graduate of  the Chelsea High School Class of 1942.  After her marriage she lived in Chelsea with her husband Sidney for a year and  moved to Malden. Mrs. Hirsh  had been a resident of  Malden for the last 52 years. She worked as a Sales Clerk with  the former Jordan Marsh Store in  Boston for 17 years and retired in 1975.  Mrs. Hirsh had been a  witness with,  the  Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Malden Congregation,  for over 40 years.

She is survived by her husband Sidney Hirsh of Malden, daughter, Gloria   C.  Clark  of Florida, son,  Gerald  E. Hirsh  and his wife  Ruth  both of  Florida, sister,  Dianne Indorato  of  Reading, MA, sister-inlaw, Pearl Wiseman of  Reading, MA, Grandson, Cory  Hirsh  of  Illinois. Grandaughters,  Tomeka  Clark  and  Joslyn  Hirsh  both  of Flordia, nephew,  Richard Indorato of  Cambridge, MA.

She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Wiseman, and her mother, Eva (Mafsovitz) Wiseman ,brother, Morris  Wiseman formerly of  Reading.

She was born December 27, 1924 in Malden,  MA,  the daughter of the late  Samuel and Eva (Mafsovitz) Wiseman.      

A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Malden Congregation,  291 Salem St.,  Malden,  on Friday evening  at 7PM.  Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park at a later date.   

                                                Marie Lourdes William

Marie Lourdes William, 51, died, suddenly,  Friday, July 14th at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts.  She was born and educated in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti and after completing her education came to the United States in 1981. She resided in New York before settling in Malden fourteen years ago. Marie was employed as a nurse’s aide at the Tuell Nursing Home of Melrose for the past fourteen years. She was a member of the Philadelphie S.D.A Church of Malden.  Mrs. William lived in Malden, Massachusetts for 14 Years and was previously from New York and Haiti.

She is survived by her father, Antonio William of NY, her son, Moise P. William of Woburn, her daughter, Dorothy William of Malden, her daughter, Ashleyne Alexis of Malden, her son Ardy Alexis , her sister, Josette William of Malden, her brother, Godefroy William of Haiti, her sister, Colette William of Haiti and her sister Marlene Destin of Haiti.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arnold Alexis and her mother, Fernande (Ersulie) William.

She was born July 14, 1949 in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti the daughter of Antonio and Fernande (Ersulie) William.

Lorraine Jean Carroll

Lorraine J. Carroll,  66, a retired accountant, for Mellon Trust Co., of Malden,  where she worked for  many  years, died Sunday, July 9th. after a short illness,  at  the  Mass General Hospital in Boston, MA Ms. Carrol  was  born in Boston and  educated in the Malden School System and was  a graduate of  Malden High School Class of 1951.  After high school she took classes at the Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown.  Lorraine worked all of  her  life  in the banking industry with the former Boston Company and later as an accountant  with the Mellon Trust Co. of  Malden.  She  was also a communicant of  St. Josephs Church, in Malden and a  member of  St. Joseph’s Women’s Club. She was a  former member of the Pedia League of  Boston for many years.  Ms. Carroll had  lived in Malden, MA all her life.

She is survived by  her brother, Leo T. Carroll  of  Malden, and his wife  Edna. Sister, Marie   R.   Morgan  of  Dracut, MA and her husband  William.  Brother, John  N.  Carroll  of Chatham, MA,  and his wife Alma.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leo T. Carroll, and her mother, Mary R. Sullivan.

She was born August 10, 1933 in Boston,  MA,  the daughter of the late  Leo T.  and Mary R.  (Sullivan) Carroll.

                                   Johanna Louise Chaplin

Johanna L.  Chaplin,  72, a retired bookbinder, for Acme Bookbinding Co. in Charlestown, MA,  where she  had worked for over  30 years, died Thursday, July 6, 2000 at the  Mass General Hospital in Boston, MA  after a short illness. She had retired in 1992. She was born Chelsea, MA and was a graduate of Chelsea High School.   Johanna   had  been a resident of  Everett, MA   for 20 years  and was previously from  Malden, MA. She  was a communicant of Sacred Hearts Church for many years. She was a  avid bingo player. Johanna was a devoted  mother,  grandmother and great-grandmother to all in her family.

She is survived by her husband, Andrew Spinelli of Saugus.  Son,   Warren G.  Chaplin  of  Malden, Daughter, Linda  C.  Greatorex  of  Revere, MA,  Son,  Stephen  M.   Chaplin Son, Joseph  W.  Chaplin  of  Everett, MA,  Daughter,  Lorraine  P.  Walba  of Malden, MA,  Son, John    F.   Chaplin  of  Everett, MA, Sister, Patricia  Sweet  of  FL, Also survived by many loving grandchildren & great-grandchildren.

She was born June 23, 1928 in Chelsea, MA,  the daughter of the late  Cornelius and Mary (McCullough) Melis.

Roy Seigfried Nordquist

  Roy Seigfried Nordquist,  70, died Wednesday, May 24th, at the Lawrence  Memorial Hospital in Medford, MA Roy was born and educated in Malden graduating Malden High School with the Class of 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after completing high school serving with the 379th Bomb Squadron of the 310th Bomb Wing during the Korean Conflict. When he was discharged he returned to Malden and was employed as a stock clerk and driver for Pioneer Market of Malden for many years. He was also employed at Smith & Welch Printing Co. of Boston as a cutter for several years. After his retirement from Pioneer Market he was employed by Lamson & Davis Hardware Store of Malden as a driver and at the First Baptist Church as their sexton.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Malden.  Mr. Nordquist was a lifelong resident of Malden.

He is survived by his wife,  Helen J. (Nickerson) Nordquist, his sons, Ronald E. Nordquist of NH and John A. Lindquist Canada, his sister Helen Nordquist of NH and his brother Jon Nordquist of NH.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Carol J. Nordquist formerly of Malden and his sister  Ebone Bond formerly of Lunenburg.      

He was born November 28, 1929 in Malden, MA the son of the late Otto and Ebone (Spongburg) Nordquist. 

He served in the Air Force during Korean Conflict. Enlisted on April 27, 1951 at Boston, MA Discharged on December 29, 1953 at Smokey Hill AFB Kansas

Francis Raymond Curran

Francis Raymond Curran,  64, a retired firefighter for Chelsea Fire Dept., where he served for 28 years, died Saturday, July 01, 2000 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts.  Frank was born and educated in Boston.  He enlisted in the Marines right out of High School, and fought in the Korean Conflict.  After the War, he became a firefighter in Chelsea, where he served for 28 years, retiring in 1992.  He was a past member of Club 24 in Malden, a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #893., and a Member of the Merrimac NH VFW Post 8641.  Frank was  a very handy "Jack of all Trades'' who was especially skilled in woodworking and woodfinishing.   He also was an avid fisherman.  Mr. Curran lived in Malden, Massachusetts for Since 1963.

He is survived by his wife Anne, Daughter, Debra A. Nolte  of Merrimack, NH, Daughter ,Cinthia W. Fowler  of Eugene, OR, Son, Frank W. Curran  of Malden, Brother,  James Curran  of MD, and grandchildren Jeffrey Perry and Alisson Davis of Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis W. Curran, and his mother, Lillian Canning, and brother, Paul Curran.

                                      James Patrick Johnson


James Patrick Johnson, 52, a Quality Control Evaluation Technician for Polarioid Corp. in Waltham, where he worked for 27 years, died Monday, June 26, 2000 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts. Mr. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Everett, attending Everett High School, graduating with the class 1966. He was an exercise enthusist, and was very dedicated to his own physical fitness. 

He was born January 21, 1948 in Everett, Massachusetts the son of Margaret (Misiano) Johnson and the late James F. Johnson. 

He is survived by his sons, Mark Johnson & Brian Johnson , Mother Margaret ()Misiano) Johnson of Everett, and sister,Carol E. Costa of Everett, and his former wife Wanda,

He was preceded in death by his father, James Francis Johnson. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 AM. Rev. Edmund Sviokla, of Immaculate Conception Church of Everett will be officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.

Ann Katherine Abbott

Ann K. (Hardy) Abbott, 64, a  retired hospital  supervisor, for the Malden Hospital, died Monday, June 26, 2000 at  the Lawrence  Memorial Hospital in Medford, MA, after a brief illness.  Ann was born & educated in Malden, MA.  She was a  graduate of  Malden High School  Class of  1954.  Ann  was  a life long resident of  Malden and worked for  the Malden Hospital as a patient escort supervisor  for 25 years, retiring in 1993.  She was a communicate of  the Immaculate Conception Church in Malden for many years. Ann  was a devoted mother and grandmother to all her family.

She is survived by a son, Robert R. Abbott and his wife Terrie of  Penacook, NH, a daughter, Karen  A. Brady and her husband George of  Malden, MA,  a daughter,  Kathy  A. Shannon and her husband William  of  Malden, a son,  Michael  D. Abbott and his wife  Jacqueline  of  Hamilton, MA, a daughter,  Cindy  A.  Abbott of  Malden  and her fiance Roy Moulton. Grandmother of  Christopher  Abbott, Troy & Tyler  Knowlton, Joseph  and  Jill  Brady, Emily and Caitlin  Shannon, Margaret and  Bridget  Abbott.

She was preceded in death by her late father, Robert B. Hardy  Sr., and her mother, Alice D. (Brophy), and her brother Robert  Hardy  Jr.

Ann  was born February 20, 1936  in Malden, MA

Eleanor Dalton Carter,78 , a supervisor for Malden Mills, where she worked for many years, died Saturday, June 11, 2000 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts. Eleanor was born and raised in Malden, graduating from Malden High School with the class of 1939. For many years she worked at Malden Mills, retiring as a Supervisor. Following her retirement, she continued to use her skills as a seamstress performing clothing repairs at Melody Cleaners in Sauges, which is owned and operated by her brother. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Malden, and a member of the AARP. She was also an avid bingo player.

She is survived by Son, Harry W. Carter of Derry, NH, Daughters Charlene L. Dangerfield & Cynthia L. Dangerfield, of SC, Son ,Paul R. Carter of Malden, Sister, Marjorie Doty NH, Brothers Chester B. Landers of Malden, Robert Landers of Malden, & Roger Landers of Stoneham. She was also survive by 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was born August 29, 1921, in Malden, Massachusetts the daughter of the late Chester and Bessie (Patterson) Landers.

Timothy Shawn Mc Fall, died Sunday, June 11, 2000 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts. Mr. Mc Fall lived with his wife Sandra in Malden, Massachusetts for the past 16 years. He was born in Somerville, and raised and educated in Malden, attending Malden High School.

He is survived by his wife Sandra, his mother, Mary C. (Goguen) McFall, Daughter Kelly H. Mc Fall , son Kevin Mc Fall , Step-children Daniel R. Duplease of Everett, James M. Duplease of Malden, Brian W. Duplease , Sharlene M. Duplease of Malden, Brother Dennis M. Mc Fall of Stoneham, Sister, Judith A. Donoghue of Malden, sister Sheila M. Rogers of Tyngsboro,& brother Robert K. Mc Fall of Smithtown, NY.

He was born March 22, 1950 in Somerville, Massachusetts the son of and Mary (Goguen) and the late Robert Mc Fall.

Robert Sumner Garland Sr.

Robert Sumner Garland Sr.,  73, a retired warehouse manager for Webster Ind., where he worked for over12 years, died Monday, June 05, 2000 at his home in Malden, Massachusetts. He was born November 14, 1926 in Malden, Massachusetts the son of the late Charles and Pheobe (Mountain) Garland.  He was raised  eductated in  Malden.  After high school,  He served in the Navy during World War II having attained the rank of Seaman 1st Class. Enlisted on January 28, 1944 at Boston Discharged on January 20, 1946 at Boston.  Following his discharge, he reenlisted in the Army towards the ends of WWII,  and served another 2 years achieving the rank of Tech-5.   At the onset of the Korean Confilct, the enlisted a third time, this time with the Air Force, where he served another 2 1/2 years,  reaching the rank of Airman 3rd Class.    After his tours of duty, he settled back in Malden. He went to work for the Butcher Polish Co. on Commercial Street in Malden, where he worked for over 20 years.  He left there to become a warehouse manager for Webster Ind. in Peabody.   Mr. Garland lived in Malden, Massachusetts for the past 9 years and had previously resided in numerous places, including Melrose & Wakefield.  He was a member of the Malden VFW Post 639.

  He is survived by his wife Delores, Daughters, Linda Ann Garland  of Amesbury,&  Debra J. Gallo of Raymond, NH, and sons Robert S. Garland Jr. of Melrose, &  Daniel J. Garland  of Malden,  Sisters Muriel Manning of AZ, Audrey Daniels of MD, & Dorothy Bierhorst of FL.  Also survived by 5 Grandchildren, and 1 great granddaughter. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Garland, and his mother, Pheobe Mountain, and several brothers and sisters.

                                             Betty Jean Cummings

Betty Jean Cummings, 68, died suddenly, Tuesday evening, May 23rd at  the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, MA. Betty was born and educated in Canton, Ohio and worked as a teachers aide in Ohio. She came to Massachusetts in 1951 where she settled in Malden. She then went to school and became a Registered Nurse.  When she retired in 1998 she was working as a home health aide for Intercity Homemaking of Malden.  Mrs. Cummings lived in Malden, Massachusetts for 49 years and was previously from Ohio.

She is survived by her sons; Michael G. Day of Lynn, Ronald A. Sigsbury of VT, John A. Day of Revere, Robert A. Day of Malden, Joseph A. Day of Malden, her daughters; Sharon A. Sokolowski of MO, Barbara M. Day of North Adams, Valerie J. Wiles of Malden, her sisters; Sarah Swiger of Ohio, Wilma M. Irwin of IL, Eileen F. West of IL and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Cummings.

She was born August 04, 1931 in Canton, Ohio the daughter of the late Raymond and Caroline (Furbay) Darnoc.

Scott Nelson Colwell

Scott Nelson Colwell,  40, retired from the military for the US Army, where he served for 10 years years, died Saturday, May 20, 2000 at Melrose Wakefield Hospital in , Massachusetts.    Mr. Colwell lived in Malden his entire life, outside of the military.

  He is survived by  his children, Amber, Justin, & Scott , granddaughter Giana, his father, Clyde Collwell, his mother, Marie (Hunt) Colwell, Brothers Todd Colwell of Malden, and Ronald Mini, Uncles Ronald Hunt  of Salem and  Edward Hunt  of NH, and Aunt  Kay Judge  of New Brunswic, Canada.

  He was born and raised in the Maplewood area of  Malden, and graduated from Malden High School with the class  of 1979.    He served in the Army during for 10 years,  having attained the rank of SSG. Enlisted on February 9, 1981 at Boston, MA Discharged on July 19, 1990 at Fort Hood, TX

          John Battaglia Sr.

John Battaglia, 85, of Malden, died Friday, May 19, 2000 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts. He was born September 13, 1914 in Watertown, Massachusetts the son of the Late Frank and Grace (Sylvestra) Battaglia.

John was raised and educated in E. Boston. After High school, he went to work to help his family. For many years he worked in Boston, filleting fresh fish. He was also the owner and operator of Johnnies Oil Delivery in E. Boston. He was a strong avid swimmer, and was also a skilled artist. Mr. Battaglia lived in Malden, Massachusetts for the past 35 years and was previously from Saugus and Everett.

He is survived by his wife Lucy A. (Ferraro) Battaglia, Daughters, Grace L. Battaglia of Lexington and Lucille A. Hennessey of Malden, Son, John Battaglia Jr. of Everett, Brothers Sam Battaglia of Saugus and Dominic Battaglia of Bedford. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 1 great grand child.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Carol G. Vasta , his sister Mary (Battaglia) , and brother Joseph Battaglia.

        Alice Geraldine Lockhart

  Alice G. (Musker) Lockhart,  90, a  housewife, died Thursday, May 18th. after a long illness,  at  the Dexter House Nursing Home in Malden, MA  Alice  had been  a   resident of  Malden for the last 80 years. She was  born  and educated in Somerville,  MA

  Alice was a active member of  the Malden Grange. She  and her late husband, Harry S. Lockhart  Sr.  loved  to sing & entertain other  members at  the differant Grange events. She was a  member of the Christian Science Mother Church in Boston, for 55 years.

  She is survived by her sons, Harry S. Lockhart Jr.of  Malden &  David M. Lockhart  of Great Barrington, MA,  her daughters, Wilda   J. Di Giovanni  of  North Andover,  Linda   L. Patrie  of  Malden.  Sister of  Frank  Musker  of  Brookline,Thomas  Musker  of Lynnfield, MA,  Jean Conroy  of Texas, Also survived by  13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren.

  She was preceded in death by her husband Harry S. Lockhart Sr., her father, William Musker, and her mother, Jean (Melrose) Musker, 2 brothers  William  Musker, David Musker.

  She was born April 29, 1910 in Somerville, MA the daughter of late William and Jean (Melrose) Musker.

Dorothy Gertrude Leather, 75, a retired cook for Davenport Memorial Foundation, where she worked for 20 years, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at Mass General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Dorothy was born and raised in Malden, graduating from Malden High School with the class of 1943. Following High School, she entered into the US Navy to serve during WWII. After her discharge, she went to work for the Davenport Memorial Foundation. Following her retirement, she worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross in Malden for over 10 years, assisting with flu vaccinations. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, and also a member of the Womens Guild of the Christ United Methodist Church. Mrs. Leather lived in Malden, Massachusetts for entire life.

She is survived by ,Son George T. Leather of Saugus, Daughter in Law, Laurel A. (Jacobs) Leather of Saugus, Granddaughters Tara L. Leather & Alicia M. Leather of Saugus, and Great Grandson, Zachary J. Savarino of Saugus. 

She was preceded in death by her husband George, her father, Walter Horatio Storey, and her mother, Elizabeth "Bess" Mullonson, Brother, Walther Storey , and sisters, Edith Pailes, Barbara Gearty, Margaret Storey. 

She was born August 02, 1924 in Malden, Massachusetts the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth (Mullonson) Storey. She served in the Navy during World War II having attained the rank of HA 1C. Enlisted on Oct. 5, 1944 at Boston, MA Discharged on November 7, 1945 at Boston, MA 

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 19, 2000 at 10:00 A.M. at the Weir Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, MaldenChurch. Rev. John Blair will be officiating.                Dorothy Mabel Leeman

Dorothy Mabel Leeman,  92, of Melrose, died Monday, May 15th at  the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Stoneham, MA. Dorothy was born in Worcester, Ma and at an early age moved to Malden with her family where she was educated and resided until moving to Melrose in 1940. She was a member of the Maplewood Baptist Church of Malden where she held the distinction of being its. most senior member having joined the church some eighty-seven years ago.  Mrs. Leeman lived in Melrose, MA for the past 60 years and was previously from Malden.

She is survived by her sister, Hazel C. Pollock of Newbury and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Millard L. Leeman and her son,   Donald Leeman.

She was born July 26, 1907 in Worcester, MA the daughter of the late Hayes and Carrie (Hatch) Andrews.

                                 Muriel Florence Barker

Muriel F. Barker,  80, of Malden, died Monday, May 15, 2000 at  the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford.  

Mrs. Barker  had lived in Malden,  for over 40  years and was previously from Everett, MA.

Muriel was a retired Registered  Nurse for  the former Grover Manor Hospital of  Revere, where she worked for over 30 years,

She is survived by  her son  Robert E. Barker of  Malden. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Barker Sr., her father, George A. Pettaway, and her mother, Harriet I. Lake.

She was born October 18, 1919 in Everett, MA,  the daughter of  the  late  George and Harriet (Lake) Pettaway.

Graveside services  will be held  in the Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden, on Wednesday, May 17th. at 10 am.

                                  Shirley E. Scribner

Shirley E. Scribner, 98, a inspector for Lawson Tool & Die, where she worked for years, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000 at Winchester Hospital in Winchester, Massachusetts. Shirley was born and Educated in Medford, graduating from High School with the class of 1918. At the onset of WWII, she went to work for Lawson Tool and Die in Malden, as a Machinist. After the war, she returned to work there as an Inspector.

She is survived by son, Frederick W. Scribner of Malden, Grandsons Frederick W. Scribner III & Lloyd L. Scribner  of Malden, great-grandchildren Brian Scribner of Lincoln RI, & Dawn (Scribner) Roberts of Fremont NH, and great-great grandchildren Kayla and Jacob Roberts of Fremont, NH.

She was born September 03, 1901 in Medford, Massachusetts the daughter of Late Arthur and Stella () Scribner. She was wife of the late Frederick W. Scribner.  Mrs. Scribner lived in Malden, for over 50 years.   She was a charter member of the Forest Dale Community Church, and a founder of the Helpers of the Forest Dale Church. She also was a member of the Daughters of Civil War Veterans.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13, 2000 at 10:00 A.M. at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home. Rev. Paul C. Mc Pheeters of Forest Dale Community Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.

               Helen Louise Pfeil

Helen Louise Pfeil, 81, of Melrose died Thursday, May 4th at the Courtyard Nursing Care Center in Medford, MA. Helen was born and educated in East Boston and after her marriage moved to South Boston where she raised her family. She later resided in Winthrop before settling in Melrose twenty years ago. Helen was an avid bingo player

She is survived by her daughter, Diane K. Marshall of Melrose, her daughter, Helen L. Mc Keon of Wakefield, her son David L. Pfeil of Winthrop, her son, Frederick H. Pfeil Jr. of Wakefield, her son Gary M. Pfeil of Mansfield, her brother, Welton Smith of FL, her sister, Marjorie De Santis  of Winthrop, her sister Evelyn Connell of E. Boston and her sister Irene Simington of Winthrop.

She was preceded in death by her husband,  Frederick H. Pfeil, Sr., her brothers, Elliot, Walter, Charles and Robert Smith and a grandson, Kenneth D. Marshall.

Helen was born November 21, 1918 in Boston, MA, the daughter of the late Robert and Effie (Belyea) Smith.

             Bruce Buchanan Culleton

Bruce B. Culleton,  53,  co-owner of Culleton Brother's, Inc., died Saturday, April 22nd at the Winchester Hospital in Winchester, MA.  Bruce was born and educated in Malden graduating from Malden High School with the Class of "65". He was then drafted into the U.S Army during the Vietnam Era, and served in Germany. Upon his discharge he and his brother, "Skip" formed the Culleton Brother's, Inc. which has become a very popular and well known  automotive and body  repair shop on Washington St. in Malden. Bruce  and his brother have operated this business for over 34 years and he really enjoyed working in his chosen profession and sponsering  the Culleton Brother's Team in the Over Forties Softball League  Mr. Culleton lived in Malden, MA for all of his life.  .

  He is survived by his daughter, Denise M. (Culleton)  Buckley of Peabody, his daughter,Susan Culleton of Malden, his son,  Bruce B. "JB" Culleton, Jr. of Malden, his fiancee,Susan A. Tura of Malden, his brother, Herbert W. "Skip" Culleton, Jr. of Malden, his grandchildren , Nicolette, Alexandra and Michael Buckley of Peabody  and several nieces and nephews..

  He was born July 07, 1946 in Malden, MA  the son of the late Herbert W. and Thelma E. (Buchanan) Culleton, Sr.

 Dorothy E. Lyons

Dorothy E. (O'Leary)  Lyons,  77, a   home maker and a life long resident of  Malden,  died Friday evening, April 21, 2000 at Courtyard Nursing Center in Medford, MA after a short  illness. Mrs. Lyons was born and educated in Malden, MA  and was communicate  of  Sacred Heart Parish for many years.

She is survived by her son  Robert Lyons  of  FL, her son  Donald J. Lyons of  NH, her daughter Kathleen M. Murphy of Saugus, her son  John C. Lyons of  NJ, her son  Gene P. Lyons  of  Methuen, her daughter Mary E. Gaudet  of  Malden, her sister Bernice Callanan of  FL,her sister  Patricia Orcutt of  Medford, her sister  Mary Bruen  of  Melrose, her brother  Eugene O'Leary  of  Medford. Also survived by 18 grandchildren & 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Lyons, her father, Maurice O' Leary, and her mother, Mary and her son,  Kenneth W. Lyons.

                  Doris Betty Mc Fall

 Doris Betty Mc Fall, 74, a life long resident of Malden died Sunday, April 16th, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, MA after a brief illness. Doris was born and educated in Malden and after completing school went to work for the Bethlehem Steel Co of East Boston as a welder during WW II.  When she completed raising her family she went to work for the New England Telephone Co. of Boston where she worked a supervisor in the cafeteria for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the Malden Moose, Malden VFW Post 639 and for the past ten years she has been associated with the Community Family Center on School St. in Everett.  

 She is survived by her son, James J. Mc Fall III of Malden, her daughter, Carolyn A. Devine of Everett, her son, Joseph P. Mc Fall of Malden, her daughter, Charlotte E. Mc Fall- Gaitanakis of Everett, her son, John M. Mc Fall of FL, her daughter, Donna M. Walbourne of NH and her brother, Albert J. Wiseman of CA.

 She was born August 27, 1925 in Malden, MA the daughter of the late Alfred and Charlotte (Stemple) Wiseman.

Margaret E. “Peg” Boyle

Margaret E. "Peg:" Boyle, 79, a retired secretary for Malden Public Schools, where she worked for over thirty years, died Monday, April 10th, at the Mass General Hospital in Boston, after a brief illness. Peg was born and educated in Boston and after completing her education enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp serving as a Corporal during WW II. Upon her discharge she became a medical secretary at the Bell Telephone Co. of Boston and after her marriage settled in Malden in 1953. In Malden she was employed as a secretary for the Malden Public School system and was active with her late husband, Arthur P. Boyle, Sr., in all of his activities as principal of the Malden High School. After her retirement in 1984 she was elected to the Malden School Committee serving one term before being elected to the Malden City Council as Councilman from Ward Three where she served for three terms. She was a member of the Zonta Club of Malden, Ladies Aid and Jr. Aid of the Malden Hospital and an active volunteer at Project Triangle of Malden.  Mrs. Boyle lived in Bryantville, MA for the past four year and had previously resided in Malden for over 43 years.

  She is survived by her daughter Kathy Boyle & her husband William Smith of Magnolia,  her son, Arthur P. Boyle, Jr. & his wife Helen L. of Bryantville, her son, Michael J. Boyle & his wife Cynthia J. of Reading, MA, son, David R. Boyle & his wife Karen M. of Bryantville, her brother, Paul Hughes of VT, sister, Dorothy Covino of Everett, brother, Robert Hughes of Plum Island,  brother, Donald Hughes of TX,  and was the grandmother of  Amanda , Jennifer and William Boyle of Bryantville, and Michaela Boyle of Reading.

  She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur P. Boyle, Sr., her brothers Michael Hughes formerly of Reading, William Hughes formerly of Melrose and John Hughes formerly of Southboro.

  She was born April 10, 1921 in Boston, Massachusetts the daughter of the late Charles M. and Margaret (Fields) Hughes.

Sybil Florence Mac Lean

Sybil Florence Mac Lean, 88, a retired cashier for First National Bank of Boston, where she worked for 25 years, died Sunday, April 09, 2000 at Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford, Massachusetts. Sybil was born and raised in Nova Scotia. In 1930 she moved to the US. She was a member of the Over 60 club, and St. Luke's Altar Guild. She was also involved with aerobics classes for many years. Mrs. Mac Lean lived in Malden for 29 years.

She is survived by Gordon Jollymore (Sister) of New Glasgow, NS, William Rockwood (Brother in Law) of Sudbury, NS.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, her sisters Susan J. Humphrey & Isabelle Rockwood.

She was born November 02, 1911 in Pictou, Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late Warren and Ella (Mc Ewan) Jollymore.

Graham P. “Andy” Andrews

  Graham Peddell Andrews,  87, a retired oil delivery man for Blue Flame Oil Co. where he worked for  years, died Tuesday, April 04, 2000, after a lengthy illness.  Graham "Andy" was born in Chelsea and moved to Cherry Street in  Malden at an Early age.  He graduated form Malden High School with the class of 1931.   Aside from working for Blue Flame Oil, he also worked for Sander Oil for many years, retireing in his early 60's to take care of his ailing wife Helen.  He was an avid fisherman, trying to go out on any available day with his brother in Rockport. 

  Mr. Andrews lived in Malden, Massachusetts since early childhood, attending the Malden School System, Gradutating with the class of 31.  

  He is survived by his daughter Barbara H. Foley  of Naples, FL, Sister, Dorothy Himmelwright-Fransen  of Melrose, Granddaughter Denise C. Foley of NY, and  Grandson Christopher S. Foley  of Malden, MA.

  He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his father, Henry Andrews, and his mother, Lucy Peddell.

  He was born March 26, 1913 in Chelsea, Massachusetts the son of Henry and Lucy (Peddell) Andrews.     

Funeral services will be held Friday,  March 7th, at 10:00AM.    Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.  There Will be visitation on Thursday for 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

John Charles Parsons, 87

John Charles Parsons, 87, a builder & longtime resident of Malden died, Sat., April 1st, in the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, Melrose after a short illness. Mr. Parsons was born in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, Canada in 1912 and moved to Massachusetts when he was 15 years old.

After marrying the former Gladys A. Vokey of Spaniards Bay, Newfoundland, Canada. John served his country in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers during WWII.

After the war, John and his brother in-law formed the Vokey & Parsons Construction and built hundreds of homes in Massachusetts. Upon Mr. Vokey's death, John expanded the business to encompass Southern New Hampshire.

John and his wife enjoyed their summers at their second home in York Beach, Maine and annual trips to Newfoundland.

Mr. Parsons was a lifelong member of the Centre United Methodist Church of Malden and also served on the Board of Trustees for 25 years. His building experience was an asset to the church on many occasions.

John belonged to the Carpenters Union #218. He was a 32nd Degree Mason at the Mt. Vernon Lodge AF & AM and a Shriner at the Aleppo Temple, Wilmington.

Mr. Parsons is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Gladys A. (Vokey). Devoted father of Kathryn D. and her husband Allan J. Walker, Deborah L. and her husband John W. Edney. Loving grandfather of Jonathan J. Walker, Emma K. and her husband Jean C. Paris, great-grandfather of John Henry Paris, all of Kingston, NH. He also leaves many relatives in the US and Canada and numerous friends and business associates.

A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 5th., at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the Weir- MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden. The Rev. John C. Blair of Centre United Methodist Church, Malden will be officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.

 

Lewis Myron Page

 Lewis Myron Page, 80, a retired tool & die maker, died Saturday, March 25th,  at his home in Malden after a lengthy illness. Lewis was born in Waltham and was educated in the primary grades in Beford.  After his graduation from Lexington High School he went to work for the Lawson Tool & Die Co. of Malden and Peabody . He was employed there for over 35 years as a tool & die maker until it's closing after moving to Peabody. He them went to work for Standard Tool & Die of Belmont where he was employed until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of The Lodge of Stirling A.F. & A.M. of Malden.  Mr. Page lived in Malden for fifty two years and was previously from Beford.

 He is survived by his wife Evelyn V. (Rodenhiser) Page of Malden, his daughter Lola M. Leggett of Lynnfield, his grandson David T. Leggett  of Lynnfield and two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte E. Page, formerly of Malden and his brother, Edward Page, formerly of Holyoke.

 He was born June 16, 1919 in Waltham, Massachusetts the son of the late Myron and Frances (Meuse) Page.

 Sarah Eleanor Coville,  98, died Thursday, March 23rd, at  the Sunbridge of Wilmington in Wilmington,  MA.  She was born and educated in Boston and after her marriage settled in Malden where she resided for over sixty years.  She was a long time member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Malden and the Women's Society for Christian Service of Malden.

 She is survived by her son, Vernon J. Coville, of Wilmington, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her husband Freeman L. Coville, her son Freeman L. Coville, Jr. formerly of Groveland and a sister Adelaide Hiltz , formerly of TX.

 She was born September 12, 1901 in Boston, MA. the daughter of the late Vernon  F. and Isabella (Phillips) Stockman.

Sylvia Wentworth

Sylvia Wentworth, 88, a retired secretary, died Tuesday, March 21st, at the Dexter Nursing Home in Malden. Sylvia was born in Malden, in the house she grew up in on Fairview Ave.  She graduated from the Malden School system, and lived in Malden all her life. She was employed as a secretary for the Travelers Insurance Co. of Boston and Lynn for over 30 years until her retirement in 1977.   After her retirement she lived for many years at 630 Salem Street and recently moved to Pearl Street.  She was a life long and active member of the Maplewood Baptist Church of Malden where she severed as a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent of the Junior Education Department for many years as well as a member of the Electa Circle of the church. She was also a longtime member of the Malden Chapter of the AARP and the 630 Club of Malden. 

 She was the Aunt of Beverly A. Murphy of NH, Ronald H. Howe of Saugus and Audrey M. Cummings of Saugus.

 She was preceded in death by her sister Hazel Kneeland and Maude Armstrong both formerly of Malden.

 She was born December 14, 1911 in Malden, Massachusetts the daughter of the late Charles and Nellie (Chamberlain) Wentworth.

  Edith  Mullen,  90, a retired stock clerk for National Radio Co., where she worked for 30 years, died Thursday, March 9th  at the  Pilgrim Rehabilitation Center in Danvers. Edith was born in Rochdale, England and came to the United States as an infant where she was educated graduating from Malden High School with the Class of 1926. She was employed as a stock clerk for the National Radio Co. of Melrose for over 30 years until her retirement in 1972.  She was a resident of Malden for over sixty years prior to moving to Peabody thirty years ago. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Malden and the Golden Age Club of Peabody. 

 She is survived by her daughter Edith M. and her husband Donald E. Shaw of Peabody her son Paul H. Wedge, Jr. of Peabody her sister Mary L. Fletcher of Malden a grandson Paul H. Wedge III of RI and a gt-grandaughter  Kristine L. Wedge of NJ.

 She was preceded in death by her husband John F. Mullen and her sisters Doris Fletcher and Ruth Butt. 

 She was born August 25, 1909 in Rochdale, England the daughter of the late John and Ann (Lord) Fletcher.

Mary M. Mackey

  Mary M. (Critch)Mackey,  78, a retired nurses aide for Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home, where she worked for 35 years, died Thursday, March 9th at  the Normandy Senior Care Center in Melrose after a brief illness. Mary was born in Newfoundland, Canada and  came to the United States at an early age where she was educated in East Boston. She then moved to Chelsea where she resided for over fifty years until moving to Everett six years ago. She was employed as a nurses aide at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home for thirty five years until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish in Chelsea.  Mrs. Mackey lived in Everett, Massachusetts for 6 years and was previously from Chelsea.

 She is survived by her daughter,  Linda M. and her husband William F.  Brogan of Somerville,  her daughter Bonnie M. and her husband Kurt  Schnabel of Malden, her sister Christine White of NH, and her sister Doris Handorff of FL.

 She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas F. Mackey  her brothers Richard Critch  & James Critch , and her sisters, Susan Perry  & Barbara Palazzolo.

 She was born April 28, 1921 in St. Mary’s,  Newfoundland, Canada the daughter of the late Richard and Bridget (Corcoran) Critch.     

 A  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at  St. Rose of Lima Church, 601 Broadway, Chelsea on  Monday March 13th at 11:00 AM with the Rev. James F. Fratus of St. Rose of Lima  Church will be officiating.  Entombment will follow  in the Holy Cross Mausoleum in Malden.

                                       Lillie Gladys Olson

Lillie Gladys Olson,  77, died Wednesday, March 01, 2000 at Park Ave Nursing and Rehab Center in Arlington, Massachusetts.  Lillie was a lifelong resident of Malden, graduating from Malden H.S. with the class of 1938.  She was a member, an officer, and Past Noble Grand of the Resolute Rebekah Lodge #99, Past President of the Rebekah Assembly of Mass..  She was also a Past President of the Board of Directors at the Odd Fellows Home of Worchester, where she had served on the board for many years, and also served on the Board of The  International Association of Rebekah Assemblies.    Lillie also enjoyed sewing and knitting, and was a skilled seamstress, often making dresses and costumes for others.  Mrs. Olson lived in Malden, Massachusetts for her whole life. 

            She is survived by Richard E. Olson (Son), Raymond K. Olson (Son) of Wrentham, MA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, her father, Richard K. Hamilton, and her mother, Gladys M. Nelson, and her brother Richard K. Hamilton Jr..

            She was born September 04, 1922 in Melrose, Massachusetts the daughter of Richard and Gladys (Nelson) Hamilton.     

            Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2000 at 10:00 A.M. at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home. Rev. Larry French will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.

                                  James Allen Thorpe

  James Allen Thorpe,  95, a retired officer for 1st National Bank of Boston, where he worked for 45 years, died Sunday, February 27, 2000 at Lawrence  Memorial Hospital in Medford, Massachusetts.  He was born July 13, 1904 in Malden, Massachusetts the son of John and Grace (Livingston) Thorpe.  James was educated in Malden, graduating form Malden High School.  He was a Mason, member of the Mt Vernon Lodge, as well as the Scottish Rite, and the Masonic Shrine.  He was  a member of the St. Pauls Episcopal Retired Mens Club.   James was also a Stained Glass Artist.  Mr. Thorpe was a  lifelong redsident of Malden.

He is survived by Peter Thorpe (Son), Abagail C. Thorpe (Granddaughter).

He was preceded in death by his wife Signa, his father, John Henry Thorpe, and his mother, Grace Elida Livingston.

Elsie Stockard Laurence

Elsie Stockard Laurence,  85, a  homemaker,  died on  Wednesday, February 23, 2000 at Sunbridge Care &  Rehabilitation  Center in Lakeland, Florida.  Mrs. Laurence had been resident of   Lakeland, FL  for 48 years and was  formerly of Malden &  Saugus, MA & Killeen, TX.   Mrs. Laurence was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland, FL for many years.

She is survived by  her  brother   Robert  Stockard of  Decatur, GA,  3 sisters,  Lois Schworm  of Needham, Sally Kearney of  Lakeland, FL and Janet Stockard of Windsor, VT.  Also survived by  8 nieces. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie T. Laurence, her father, Sidney Stockard, and her mother, Bertha Eddy.

She was born March 31, 1914 in Malden, MA  the daughter of Sidney and Bertha (Eddy) Stockard.

 A graveside service will be held on Tuesday Feb. 29th. at   1:30 PM  at Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. 

                          

                         Anthony Kee Wong

Anthony K. Wong,  73, a retired mechanical  engineer for U.S. Government  at the Watertown Arsenal,  died Saturday, February 26, 2000 at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, MA, after a short illness.

 Mr. Wong was a Mechanical  Engineer  at the  Watertown  Arsenal, Watertown, MA  in the High Temperature   Metallurgical  Lab for 30 years and retired  in 1982.

Mr Wong was  born and educated in Fall River and was a  graduate of  Durfee High School, Class of 1945. He continued his education and  graduated from   Northeastern University  Class of 1950,  with a BS in Engineering. He's  been a resident of Malden for the last 44 years.

He is survived by his wife Lela   M. (Ming)  Wong,  Father  of  Christina   M.  Wong  of  Newton, MA and   Dr. Kevin M. Wong  of   Jeannette, PA,   Brother  of  Oliver  K.  Wong  of Hawaii, Toy   Woo  of   Rhode Island, Virginia  Tom  of  Hawaii. Grandfather of  Daniel  and   Christopher  Dong, Michael, David,   Erica  and  Matthew  Wong. 

He was preceded in death by his brother  William Wong formerly of Fall River, MA

                          Bernice Taylor  Johnson

Bernice T. (Taylor) Johnson, a homemaker,  died  after a short illness, Friday , February 25th.  at  Mass General Hospital in Boston, MA. She was  67 years old and was born   in Hinesville, GA

  Mrs. Johnson had been  a resident of Malden for the last 40 years.

  She is survived by James F.  " Freddie"   Johnson (Son), Richard    C.  "Pumpskey" (Son), Bernice   M.  "Ria" (Daughter), Joseph G. "Joe"  Johnson (Son), Rosetta     Taylor (Sister), Sadie  M.  Johnson (Sister-inlaw), and many nieces & nephews.

Francis Henry Jones  

Francis H. Jones,  86, a retired custodian for Somerset Bank, where he worked for 20 years, died Sunday, February 27, 2000 at the Annemark Nursing Center  in Revere, MA, after a long illness.  Mr. Jones had resided in   Malden, MA for 3 years and was previously from Somerville for the last 25 years.   He retired from the Somerset Bank in 1978.

Mr. Jones was born in Cork  City, Ireland  and came to this country at an early age and settled in South Boston. He is survived by  2 Sons,  Paul H. Jones &  Charles S. Jones both of Malden,  3 Daughters, Kathleen A. Doherty   of  Malden, Pauline T. Morrow & Carol F. Cone both  of  AL. 1 Sister,  Christine Fernald of  Arlington.  He  also  survived    14 Grandchildren,  13 Great- Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Frances  C. (Girard), his father, John Jones, and his mother, Kathleen (O'Halloran).

He was born April 12, 1913 in Cork City, Ireland,  the son of  late John and Kathleen (O'Halloran) Jones.

A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph's Church, Malden, on Tuesday, Feb. 29th. at   9AM.  Fr. Richard T. Baker  will be the  celebrant.  Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.                         Charlotte Elizabeth Page 

Charlotte Elizabeth Page, 83,  died Friday, February 18, 2000 at Rainbow Nursing Center in Peabody, MA after a long illness.  Ms. Page was formerly from Bedford, MA , later moving to  Malden  after her parents  passed on.  Ms. Page  had   been a resident of the Rainbow Nursing  Center  in Peabody, MA for the last 6 years.  Before moving to Peabody she was a resident at the Bartlett Manor Nursing  Home in Malden.

She is survived by Lewis M.  Page (Brother) of  Malden, MA,  Evelyn  V.  Page  (Sister-inlaw) of Malden, MA. Also survived by many nieces & nephews.

She   was preceded in death by  her  father, Myron M. Page,  and her mother, Frances M. Muese.

She was born April 04, 1916 in Laconia, New Hampshire,  the daughter of late  Myron and Frances (Muese) Page.     

A graveside service was  held at the Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford, MA  on Wednesday February 24, 2000.

 

Joseph Stephen Cox

Joseph S. Cox,  87, a retired pharmacist for Cresent Pharmacy of Chelsea, where he worked for many  years & an avid artist, died  suddenly Tuesday morning, February 22th.  at Dexter House Nursing Home in Malden, MA  Mr.  Cox was born in Providence, RI and later moved with his family to  Chelsea were they lived for some time. He  later moved  to Malden and had  been a resident for the last 50 years. 

Mr. Cox was a registered pharmacist working in the industry for over 50 years. He started working at the former Prattville Pharmacy in Chelsea and later worked at the Cresent Pharmacy also in Chelsea, until his retirment. He was a  long time member of the Holy Name Society of  the  Sacred Hearts Church in Malden. 

He is survived by Mary C. Cox (Sister) of Malden, MA, John F. Cox (Brother) of Malden, MA.

He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen J. Cox, and his mother, Mary A. (Gibbons).

He served with the Medical Detachment Hospital Center  at Camp Edwards, MA   with  the Army, during World War II,  having attained the rank of Sergeant.   He was  discharged on April 3, 1946 at Ft. Devens, MA

Emmanuel Zardis

Emmanuel  Zardis,  77, a retired senior custodian for City of Medford, where he worked for 10 years, died Saturday, February 19, 2000 at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.  Manny was born and educated in New York.  After leaving high school, he enrolled in the US Navy, where he fought in WWII.  After the conclusion of the war, he returned to the Boston area, where he went to work for BF Goodrich for 27 years.  He left BF Goodrich to work for City of Medford Public school system, where he worked as a senior custodian for the next 10 years.  He maintained an interest in the military, and became an avid reader of Military History, and was especially interested in the Civil War.  Mr. Zardis lived in Malden, Massachusetts for 46 years and was previously from Quincy  He is survived by his wife Irene, with whom he shared 55 years, Stephen Zardis (Son) of Brocton, MA, George Zardis (Brother) of Saugus.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Zardis, and his mother, Mary Bolakas, Louis Zardis (Brother).

            He was born February 07, 1923 in New York, New York the son of John and Mary (Bolakas) Zardis.  He served in the Navy during World War II having attained the rank of Gunners Mate, 2nd Class. Enlisted on January 14, 1941 at New York Discharged on December 6, 1946 at Boston

                                  Kenneth Neil Bowker

Kenneth Neil Bowker, 82, a retired route foreman for H.P. Hood, where he worked for 33 years, died Friday, February 18, 2000 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts. Kenneth was born and Educated in Saugus. After High School, he enlisted in the US Army, and fought in WWII. Upon his return, he married his wife Evla, and moved to Malden, where they lived together for 59 years. He was an outdoorsman, avid hunter and fisherman, and was a lover of nature. Mr. Bowker lived in Malden, Massachusetts for 59 years and was previously from Saugus.  Kenneth was also a member of the Bethlehem Masonic Lodge of Lynn, Royal Arch Chapter, and a member of the American Legion, Post  69, Malden. 

He is survived by his wife Elva, Cheryl E. Crowell (Daughter) of Malden, MA, Robert O. Bowker (Brother) of Saugus, Muriel Hicks (Sister) of Tewksbury, Alyson T. Crowell-Astuccio (Granddaughter) of Medford, Elizabeth H. Crowell (Granddaughter) of Malden, Jocelyn T. Astuccio (Grt. Grandchild) of Medford, Mathew J. Astuccio (Grt. Grandchild) of Medford. He was preceded in death by his father, David O. Bowker, and his mother, Alice A. O'Neal, James Bowker (Brother), Phyllis Knowlton (Sister), David Bowker (Brother).

He was born May 11, 1917 in Saugus, Massachusetts the son of David O. and Alice (O'Neal) Bowker. He served in the Army during World War II having attained the rank of Seargent. Enlisted on June 24, 1943 at Boston, MA Discharged on April 1, 1946 at Ft. Devens, MA

Phillip De Leo

Phillip De Leo, 77, a instrument salesman for E. Woolards, where he worked for many years, died Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at Mc Fadden Memorial Manor in Malden, Massachusetts. Phillip was born in Boston. He attended Boston University. He served in the Army during WWII, and was a member of the American Legion, Post 609, and the Malden VFW, Post 603. He was an avid trumbone player. His enthusiam for music led him to manage a band, "The 4 Shadows", and also led him to his careeer at E. Woolards. He also enjoyed old movies and was a cigar afficianato. Mr. De Leo had lived in Malden, Massachusetts for over 50 years in Malden.

He is survived by his former wife Maureen, Michael D. De Leo (Son) of Malden, Christopher De Leo (Son), Anthony De Leo (Brother) of Malden, MA.

He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony De Leo, and his mother, Nina Ventola, Domenic De Leo (Brother).

He was born September 07, 1922 in Boston, Massachusetts the son of Anthony and Nina (Ventola) De Leo. He served in the Army during World War II having attained the rank of Pvt. Enlisted on November 11, 1942 at Malden Discharged on September 10, 1943 at FT. Myers, DE

Jackie Michael Bus

Jackie Michael Busook,  47, a  proprietor for Sleep City, where he worked for  years, died Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at                      Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts.  Jackie was born in Malden  August 08, 1952,  the son of Albert and Annette (Cuscuna) Busook. He was raised in Woburn and Winchester, graduating from Winchester H.S.   His enthusiasm for drums led him to Berkley School of Music, and he played drums professionally with many bands in the area over the years.   He was the owner and operator of Sleep City, a mattress and bedding store in Quincy.                                                      Mr. Busook currently lived in Malden, Massachusetts  and was previously from Reading. He is survived by his wife Sandra (Dilello) , his mother, Annette( Cuscuna,)  Busook (Mother) of Malden, Erica L. Busook (Daughter) of Reading, Michael R. Busook (Son) of Reading, David Consalvo (Brother) of Chelmsford.    He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Busook.

   Sarah Amelia De Priest

 Sarah Amelia (Stande)De Priest, 76, died Sunday, February 13, 2000 at the Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford. She was born and educated in Boston and shortly after her marriage she settled in Malden where she has resided for over 52 years. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Malden. She was devoted to her 20 grandchildren and two gt-grandchildren and loved to cook. She also enjoyed crafts, sewing, reading and crossword puzzles.  Prior to living in Malden Mrs. De Priest had lived in Dorchester.

 She is survived by five daughters Christine L. Burke of Melrose, Jeanne L. De Priest of Malden, Nancy A Mac Leod of Canada, Mary J. O' Boyle of Malden, Elaine M. Obejiski of Brocton, five sons, John W. De Priest of Medford, Mark P. De Priest of Malden, Steven J. De Priest of Wakefield, Stuart A. De Preist III of Lynn and William C. De Priest of Malden, three sister Marie A'Hearn of W. Roxbury, Anne Bertino of S. Boston, Marion Spinnazola  of Idaho. Two brothers Richard Stande of Sharon and Edward Stande of Lexington.       

She was preceded in death by her husband Stuart A. De Priest and her sister Florence Foley.

 She was born August 23, 1923 in Boston, Massachusetts the daughter of the late Rocco and Amelia (Smith) Stande.

                                     Emily Agnes Larue

Emily Agnes La Rue, 91, a retired telephone operator died Wednesday,  Feb.9th at  the Dexter Nursing Home in Malden. She was born in Everett and educated in Malden schools and after completing her education she became a telephone operator for the F.S. Webster Co. of Cambridge where she was employed for over forty years retiring at the age of 65. She enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II and served between 1943 and 1946 as a Yeoman 1st Class. She was a Life Member of Malden Aries of Eagles #893 of Malden and spent her summers in Long Island, Maine.  Mrs. La Rue had lived in Malden for over 89.  She is survived by Patricia A. Knox (Niece) of Malden, Maureen E. Morrison (Niece) of Melrose, Jo-Ann Finlay (Niece) of Melrose, Betty Campbell (Niece) of Melrose, David Wagner (Nephew) of IL, John Collins (Nephew) of TX.

 She was born July 21, 1908 in Everett, MA the daughter of the late William and Catherine (Feeney) Campbell.   Her husband Omar La Rue preceded her in death.

                                     Mitchell R. Zewiey   Sr.

  Mitchell R. Zewiey  Sr., a retired  lab technician and photographer for Polaroid  Corp., in Cambridge,  died suddenly Friday evening,  at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford.

 Mitchell was born and educated in Boston. He entered  the US Army and served his country from   January 1944- May 1946  as a Pvt. 1cl. Class  and served with   Co B   264th. ECB Unit. He was a marksmen and  a demolition  engineer while in the service.  After the service, he married  the former Nancy E. ( Bergh) in 1962 and  had been a  resident in Malden for the last 37 years.He was photographer & lab technician for  Polariod Corp. in  Cambridge for 23 years, retiring in 1983.  He  also did professional  photography work for  famous people around the world,  and received high praise for his excellant  work. He also did custom photofinishing work. He worked for the Loring Studio in Boston for 8 years.

 He is survived by his wife Nancy E. (Bergh) Zewiey of Malden, Mitchell  E. Zewiey   Jr. (Son) of Everett, Eric   F.   Zewiey (Son) of Greenfield,  Keith   A. Zewiey (Son) of Everett, Dana    G.  Zewiey (Son) of Phillipston, MA, Richard   Zewiey (Brother) of FL, Valerie  Zewiey (Sister) of PA, Celia Nichols (Sister) of Boston, MA.

  He was preceded in death by his father, George Zewiey, and his mother, Josephine (DeCory), Harry Zewiey (Brother).

  He was born  September 15, 1925 in Boston, MA the son of George and Josephine (DeCory) Zewiey.

  Arthur B.  Kingsley,  74, a Development Assistant & Tool & Die Maker  for Trans World Services Inc., of  Melrose, where he worked for  25 years, died Sunday, February 6th. after a long illness at Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett, MA    Mr. Kingsley lived in Malden,  MA for   56 years and was previously from  Westerly, RI.

  He is survived by his wife Dorothy H. (Russo) Kingsley, Scott A.  Kingsley (Son) of Melrose,  Andrea   E.  Kingsley (Daughter-inlaw) of Melrose,  Pamela  J. Avery (Daughter) of Campton, NH, Paul   D. Avery (Son-inlaw) of Campton, NH, Dorothy     Natal (Sister) of CA, Luis Natal (Brother-inlaw) of CA, Sean  A. Kingsley (Grandson) of Melrose, Allison  E. Kingsley (Granddaughter) of Melrose, Heather  M. Kingsley (Granddaughter) of Melrose.

  He was born February 6, 1926 in Boston, MA the son of the  late Arthur and Bertha (Morse) Kingsley  Sr.  He graduated with the Class of 1947 at the Malden Vocational School.

  He served  with the  U.S. Marines during World War II  in the Pacific Area, and  in  the  Luzon & Southern Philippines Operations, from  Sept. 1944- Dec. 1945,  having attained the rank of Corporal.  He enlisted in February  1943 at Boston,  MA  and was discharged in December  1945 at San Diego, CA 

He was a Council Representative for the Boy Scout Troop  603 in Malden, Order of the Arrow and the Brotherhood of Scout Campers. He  also received his Wood Badge  & Silver Beaver Award. He was  a member of  Order of the Arrow Boy Scouts Club of America. Art was a member of the Converse Masonic Lodge of the AF & AM in Malden. He was a 32nd Degree Shriner with the  Aleppo Temple Shriners  AAONMS of Wilmington, MA. Member of the   Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Lodge Council Chapter, the Cape Ann Shrine Club, Gloucester, MA  Arthur was  a member and treasurer of the U. S. Marine Bombing Squadron VMB- 611 and a member of  Marine Corps Association,  Commander in Chief Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War   Camp #4. He was a Ham Radio Operator N1FAS and  member of the Cape Ann Amateur Radio Association. Member of the Melrose  Emergency Management Agency  and  Lieutenant with the Auxiliary Police, City of Melrose. Former member of the Blue Knights of Saugus. Member of the D.A.V.  Chapter 120 in Melrose & the VFW Post  #2394  Melrose, MA Melrose Chapter AARP  1124.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated  on  Thursday, February 10th.  at  9:00 A.M. at the  Immaculate Conception Church  Malden, MA  Father Frank Silva, Pastor of Immaculate Conception Church will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Elmer "Hank" F. Greenberg  

 Elmer "Hank" F. Greenberg, 86, of Lakeland, Fl. Formerly of Malden, died Wednesday, January 26th at his home in Lakeland, Fl. Hank was born and educated in Malden and after completing school became a painter. He was employed by the Painters & Allied Trades District Council # 35 for forty years until his retirement from the union in 1975.He then became a maintenance painter for Boston University where he worked for ten years retiring to Florida in 1989. He was a member of the Maplewood Baptist Church of Malden, Mt. Vernon Lodge AF & AM of Malden, Aleppo Temple Shrine of Wilmington, The Redmen of Wakefield and a member of Local 35 of the Painters & Allied Trades District Council.  Mr. Greenberg lived in Lakeland, Fl. for the past 10 years was previously from Malden where he had resided all his life until retiring to Fl.           

 He is survived by his wife Josephine A. (Williamson) Greenberg his son, Carl F. Greenberg of N.H., his daughter, Marjorie L. Braese of Ipswich, his son, Chester A. Greenberg of Malden, his son, Ralph A. Greenberg, of Ipswich. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and 10 gt-grandchildren. .

He was born June 22, 1913 in Malden, MA the son of the late Karl and Elna (Orhn) Greenberg.     

 Memorial Funeral Services will be held on Sat., Feb.5th at 10:00 A.M. at the Maplewood Baptist Church, 729 Salem St., Malden with Pastor Joseph DeCosta officiating.  Internment will take place at a later date at Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.

                         Charlotte A. Menice

Charlotte A. Menice, 81, a retired secretary for H.F. Livermore, where she worked for 40 years, died Friday, January 28, 2000 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts. Charlotte was born and educated in Medford, graduating with the class of 36. After her marriage to Clarence M.D. Hanson, she moved to Malden where she remained. She was a past member of the Elliott Club of Medford. Mrs. Menice lived in Malden, Massachusetts for 50 years and was previously from Medford.

She is survived by A. Keith Hanson (Son) of Waltham, Charlene A. Hanson (Daughter) of Malden, Doris Strong (Sister) of Medford, Arthur Young (Brother) of Malden. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, her father, Fritz Young, and her mother, Anna.

She was born January 18, 1919 in Medford, Massachusetts the daughter of Fritz and Anna Young.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2000 at 10:00 A.M. at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home. Rev. James Knowles will be officiating. Burial will be private.  Visitation for friends and family will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM

                                            Dr. Roland P. Wilder Dies at 87

                                                  Prominent Local Physician

                   Roland P. Wilder, M.D., 87, who practiced medicine in Malden for 40 years before retiring in 1977, died on January 26, 2000 at Delray Beach, Florida of complications following a stroke.  He lived in Chatham, Mass, during his retirement, and had wintered at Delray Beach each year since 1995.

          Dr. Wilder was born in Malden and attended local schools, graduating from Malden High in 1930, prior to attending Boston University.  He graduated from BU Medical School in 1936, entering a general medical practice in Malden the following year.  He completed his internship at Massachusetts Memorial Hospital in Boston.  During WWII, Dr. Wilder served as a flight Surgeon in the United States Army Air Force, attaining the rank of Major before being honorably discharged in 1946.  He was a member of the American Legion. 

          Upon reentering his medical practice, Dr. Wilder completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Booth Memorial Hospital.  He specialized in those fields for the remainder of his career, becoming a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and serving on the staffs of the Booth Memorial Hospital, Malden Hospital, and Mass. Memorial Hospital, Lawrence Memorial Hospital, and New England Memorial Hospital.   He was a past president of both the Middlesex South Medical Society, and the Boston University Medical Alumni Association.  Following his retirement, he served on the Board of Directors of Medi-Center Five, an adjunct of the Cape Cod Hospital.

          Dr. Wilder was a long time member of Kiwanis, he was elected to various offices, including president, of the Malden Club, and continued his active membership in the organization after moving to Chatham in 1977.  He also served on the Board of Directors of the Malden Cooperative Bank for nearly 30 years.  His keen interest in education led to his service on the Board of Trustees of the Malden Public Library.

          Both in Malden and Chatham, Dr. Wilder was a member of the First Congregational Church.  His marriages to Dorothy Reeves Wilder and Clarissa Hunting Wilder were dissolved by their deaths in 1951 and 1994, respectively.  Dr. Wilder is survived by his wife Cornella Rendell Wilder, his daughter Patricia L. Fuller of Oriental, NC, a health industry manager, his son, Roland P. Wilder Jr, of Arlington, VA, a Washington Lawyer, and two grandsons, William R. Wilder, and Roland P. Wilder III.

          Funeral Services for Dr. Wilder will be held at the Weir Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Thurs., Feb. 3rd at 10:00 AM. With the Rev. David M. Erickson of The First Congregational Church of Chatham officiating. Internment will follow at Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Weds. February 2nd.

Westford Robbins, 87, a retired city contoller for City of Malden, where he worked for years, died Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at Dexter Nursing Home in Malden, Massachusetts. Westford was a lifelong resident of Malden. He was a firefigher in Malden for over 20 years. After leaving the Fire Dept, he was the City Controller in Malden. He was a past member of the Retirement Board for the City of Malden, a member of the Board of Directors for the Heritage, a Member of the Lodge of Sterling AF & AM in Malden, and a Member of The First Church of Malden, Congregational. Mr. Robbins was a lifelong resident of Malden.

He is survived by his wife Pauline, Carolyn Gaetani (Daughter) and her husband Richard of Medford, Janet Humston (Daughter) and her husband Edward of Reston, VA. Also survived by 5 Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Berton Robbins, and his mother, Lillian West.

He was born February 19, 1912 in , Malden, MA the son of Berton and Lillian (West) Robbins.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 29th, at 11:00 AM. at The First Church of Malden Congregational, 184 Pleasant Street, Malden MA 02148. Rev. Randall P. Ferrara of The First Church in Malden, Congregation will be officiating. Cremation will be in the Woodlawn Crematory in Everett.

Antoinette Marie Collins  

  Antoinette Marie Collins,  91, died Saturday, January 22, at  the Masconomet Health Care Center in Topsfield,. She was born & educated in Boston married and moved to Everett, where she resided for 21 years. She then moved to Malden where she has resided for the past 25 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish of Malden and a member of the Heritage House , Knit Wits Club, and the Ladies Card  Club & Womens Club of Malden

She is survived by Annette M. Popeo (Daughter) of Walpole, James F. Collins, Jr. (Son) of W.Newbury, Thomas Colarusso (Brother) of Medford, Marion Zagarella (Sister) of Abington, Helen Misiano (Sister) of East Boston.

  She was preceded in death by her husband James F. Collins, Sr.  her father, Giuseppe Colarusso, and her mother, Marguerite (Uanna) Colarusso, , Mary Rizzo (Sister), Lucy Selvitella (Sister), Margaret Contestable (Sister), Josie Schiaraffa (Sister), Sadie Sulmonetti (Sister), Millie Turco (Sister), Minnie Juliano (Sister), Jenny Gargano (Sister), Louise Maffeo (Sister).

  She was born October 21, 1908 in Boston, Massachusetts the daughter of Giuseppe and Marguerite (Uanna) Colarusso.     

  Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church   on Fri. Shirley Ellen White, 72, a retired certified electronics tech for Transitron, where she worked for 17 years, died Saturday, January 22, 2000 at Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett, Massachusetts. Shirley was born and Educted on Malden. After High School, she became a Certified Electronics Technician. She worked for many years at Transitron, and retired from Contron after 17 years there., (which is now Arrow Intern'l). She was active for many years working with the MDA telethon. Mrs. White lived in Everett, Massachusetts for Over 20 years

.She was born August 31, 1927 in Malden, the daughter of James and Geraldine Garro.She is survived by Charles W. White (Son) of Raymond, NH, Debra D. White (Daughter) of Everett, Sharon E. White (Daughter) of Malden, Richard A. White (Son) of Everett, Leonard A. White (Son) of Everett, MA, Robert A. White (Son) of Everett, Myrtle Garro (Sister- In - Law) of Cambridge.  She was preceded in death by her husband William, her father, James Garro, and her mother, Geraldine.

Visitation will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Wednesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at 8:00 P.M. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 20 Hillside Ave, Malden.   Rev. Joseph Alan Grossi, 49, a computer programmer for Xpedex Co., where he worked for 25 years, died suddenly Friday, January 21st. at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose,. Joseph was born in Boston and moved to Malden as a teenager where he graduated from Malden High School with the Class of "1968". He attended Bentley College for two years studying accounting and after completing his education went to work for the Xpedex Co. of Wilmington. He was employed as a computer programmer manager for over 25 years. He was a communicant at St. Joseph's Church of Malden and was a former coach for the American Little League of Malden. He severed as President of the Malden Pop Warner Football League from 1986 through 1990 after which he severed as coach of "E' Squad for four years and was presently coaching his sixth season with the MNBL.  Mr. Grossi lived in Malden, Massachusetts for 35 Years and was previously from Boston.

 He is survived by his wife Maureen R. (Barry) Grossi of Malden, his father, Americo Grossi of Medford, his Daughter Kathryn M. Grossi and her fiancé Luigi Santonastaso of Malden, his daughter Kristina M. Grossi of Malden, his sister, Marie E. Bosco of E. Boston. He was the son in-law of William & Mary Barry of Malden, the brother in-law of John & Kathleen Doyle of Arlington and William & Denise Barry of Amherst.  He was the uncle of John Bosco of Revere, Dina Gordon of Malden, Lisa Bosco of E. Boston, and Deirdre Doyle of Arlington.

 He was born May 05, 1950 in Boston, Massachusetts the son of Americo and the late Angelina (Pagiarulo) Grossi of Medford.

   Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home on Sunday from 7-9 PM and on Monday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM

 "Buddy" Reynolds Jr., 62, of Malden, died suddenly Monday, January 17th., at his home.

Buddy was born April 15, 1937 in Melrose, MA. He's been a life long resident of Malden, living at the same address for many years. He is survived by his wife Martha G. (Case), Father of Derek M. Reynolds of Malden, Thomas Tashjian of Abington, Catherine Blood and her husband Michael of FL, Michael Tashjian of South Boston, Judith & James Tashjian both of Braintree, ,Uncle of James Fasoulas of Saugus. Long time friend of Robert Tashjian of Braintree. Also survived by 5 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cedric I. Reynolds Sr., and his mother, Ruth E. Shepard, Harriet Fasoulas formerly of Malden (Sister).

Buddy was a graduate of Malden High School Class of 1957. He was a truck driver for the Mamigon Express, in South Boston, for 30 years. Member of Teamster Local # 25 Boston, MA, for 26 years. He served in the 182nd Infantry, Army National Guard in Wakefield for many years. Former member of the American Legion in Malden & the Italian American Club in Revere.

Visitation will be held at the Weir- MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Friday, January 21st. from 5-9 PM.

Doris Priscilla Powers, 72, died Tuesday suddenly, January 18th, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. She was born and educated in Everett and after completing school became an operator for the New England Telephone Co. After her marriage she settled in Malden where she has resided for over 50 years. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Cerretani's Grocery Stores of Melrose for many years until her retirement in 1975. She was a member and Past President of the Emblem Club of the Malden Elks of Malden and was also an avid bingo player

 She is survived by Carolyn J. Cyckowski (Daughter) of Malden, Barbara J. Rossetti (Daughter) of Lynnfield, Dianne F. Rowe (Daughter) of Malden, Maryellen P. Raduazzo (Daughter) of Malden, Marguerite Goddard (Sister) of Melrose. Also survived by  11 grandchildren &  5 great-grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her husband Francis J. Powers, her father, Stanley Blackmore, and her mother, Louise Rees, Thelma Noseworthy (Sister), Evelyn Roberts (Sister), Hubert Blackmore (Brother), William Blackmore (Brother).

 She was born May 11, 1927 in Everett, Massachusetts the daughter of Stanley and Louise (Rees) Blackmore.     

Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home 144 Salem St. Malden on Thurs. Jan. 20th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM
