James Boal Sr.

James
Boal Sr. died at home Friday evening, January 30, 2009, after a long illness
surrounded by his loving family. He was 80. Jim was born on March
8, 1928 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He came to the United States at the
age of sixteen and lived in Malden. He started working right away and would
later meet and marry his sweetheart, Susan P. Moller. The couple married on December 30, 1950
and settled in Malden. In early January of 1951 Jim entered the U.S. Army and
served during the Korean War for the next three years, until his discharge in
October of 1953.
Jim
returned home and started working for the National Cylinder & Gas Co in Malden.
When the company moved to their North Grafton location he stayed with the company
and traveled back and forth from Malden. He was a dispatcher for the company
for many years and was employed for thirty-seven years until his retirement in
1990.
Jim
had a strong love for his wife and family and loved caring for them all. He
enjoyed working inside and outside of his home. In his spare time, he had a
passion for watching the Boston Red Sox loved Irish football and wrestling. He
was an avid reader, and loved reading any of the Robert Parker’s novels. His
family called him the “Great Grumpy Grandfather”. He had a strong passion for
animals and loved caring for his dogs, cats and was an avid pet owner. Mr. Boal
was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Parish in Malden and also did
volunteer work at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Linden Square, Malden. Jim had
been a resident of Malden for over 64 years.
He
is survived by his loving wife Susan P. (Moller) Boal of Malden, his children; Carol
A. Little and her husband Ronald P. "Pat" Little of Billerica, James Boal Jr.
and Joan L. Boal-Slama both of Everett, John D. Boal of NH, his cherished
grandchildren, Angela L. Lee & Kevin P. Slama Jr. both of Malden, Kristie
A. Slama of Everett, and Amanda & Erin Boal both of NH.
He was preceded in death by
his son Christopher T. Boal, and his grandson Keith P. Slama.

Monday, February 2, 2009 from 4-8 PM.
In

Funeral services will be held in the Weir-Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home,
144 Salem St., Malden on Tuesday, February. 3, 2009 at 11 AM. Father John R.
Clarke of St. Paul's Episcopal Parish will be officiating. Burial will be in
the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
