Alfred D. Young (Known to many as Big Al or The Colonel) of Medford passed away surrounded by family February 28th 2026. He was the son of Alfred and Dorothy (Benett) Young. Born and raised in Malden Mass Alfred was the beloved husband of the late Irene (Bushee) Young and devoted father of Deborah, Dennis, Steven, Paul, David and Laurie.
Alfred dedicated many years to his career working as a salesperson and accountant for Moynihan Lumber. Outside of work he was an avid New England sports fan, especially Baseball. He loved his annual trips to Cooperstown with his friends and weekends at his house in NH. He spent his spare time woodworking and carpentry around the house. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Attending their sports activities and he loved his lunch dates at Laurie’s 909.
Alfred is survived by his children Deborah Young of Medford, Dennis Young of North Reading, Steven Young of Northwood NH, Paul Young of Lynnfield, David Young and his wife Kari of North Reading and Laurie Young of Wakefield. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Danielle, Jill, Amber, Steven, Dennis, Alicia, Matthew, Meghan and Gia, Great Grandchildren Tessa, Violet, Felicity, Ava, Steven and Caiden. Alfred is also survived by his sister Sandy Dortona of Salem NH along with many friends and family members.
Visitation for Alfred will be held on Thursday March 5th 2026, at the Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden from 4-8 PM. A Mass will be held Friday March 6th at St. Joseph’s Church in Malden at 12pm followed by interment at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
