Amelia Lantin Obituary

Amelia S. Lantin, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away on Monday, May 18th, at the age of 97.

Amelia was born on June 2, 1929, the daughter of Julian and Asuncion Suansing of Bacolod City, Philippines.  She was raised and educated in Bacolod City, where she earned her Masters Degree in Education.   She went on to teach Home Economics for 26 years. On March 3, 1953, she married her sweetheart, Jose Lantin Sr, and the two raised their 5 children.   Upon her retirement, Ameila and Jose Sr. immigrated to the United States as petitioned by their eldest daughter Roslyn and settled down in Malden together.  They shared 59 years of marriage together until Jose Sr’s passing in 2012.

Amelia is a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who welcomes everyone for tasty meals on special occasions. While in the United States, at age 60 she continued to work as a cook in a retirement home in Malden.  After several years she took a position at Fleet Bank, which is now Bank of America.   She eventually retired in 2010.

Upon their arrival in Malden, Amelia and Jose Sr joined the First Baptist Church of Malden.  They remained dedicated church members throughout their life. Her life at First Baptist Church brought her so much joy and never missed going to church until she became bedridden after a knee injury.

Ameila is survived by four children, Roslyn Nowak and husband Andrew, Jose Lantin Jr, Jocelyn Zabala and husband Leo, and Jeffrey Lantin and wife Joyce, her son in law Mario Infante, her brothers Benjamin Suansing and Limuel Suansing, as well as 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jose Sr, her daughter Marilou Infante, her brothers Horatio Suansing Sr, and Julian Suansing Jr, and her sisters, Nelly Matira and Letty Lim.
