Carolyn J. (Overlan) Rao

Carolyn J. (Overlan) Rao, a longtime resident of Malden and Revere, passed away on Monday, July 3rd, at the age of 83. She was a loving and devoted wife of 60 years to the late Frank D. Rao. She is survived by her beloved children, Denise Rao Monaghan and husband Jim of Hopkinton, Daniel Rao and wife Michele Solimine Rao of Middleton, Dean Rao and wife Karen of North Reading, and her grandchildren, Taylor Rao, Brooke Rao, Carolyn Rao Rolander and husband Griffin, and Allison Monaghan. She was a loving daughter of the late Peter and Josephine Overlan.  Carolyn cherished her siblings, the late Peter Overlan III, the late Kathryn Woodside, Patricia Lipani of Malden, William Overlan of NH, and JoAnne Vitiello of Peabody.

Carolyn’s family was her greatest treasure with friends being a close second.  Carolyn followed the family tradition of great Italian cooking and family gatherings.  A pastime instilled by her father, Carolyn loved taking long drives throughout the North Shore with family and friends and visiting beaches year round. Most notable was Carolyn’s love of God and devotion to prayer.  Carolyn was a long-time communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Malden, and St. Mary’s, Revere. 

In addition to being a dedicated wife and mother, Carolyn was a past president of the St. Joseph’s Mother’s Club and worked for Malden Trust Company and later JEOL, Inc., Peabody as a credit manager.

A Funeral Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s of the Assumption, 630 Washington Street, Revere, MA on Monday, July 10th, at 11 AM. Family and friends are invited to meet directly at Church.

Visitation will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden  on Sunday, July 9th, from 4 – 7 PM.
