Charles W. Gaffney Jr. , a longtime resident of Malden, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, September 8th. Charles was born in Brighton in 1945, the son of Charles and Catherine Gaffney. He was raised and educated in Boston, and soon after high school, Charles joined the US Marine Corps to help our country fight in Vietnam. He served honorably for 3 years, before being discharged in the the reserves and returning to the US. Upon his return to the Boston area, Charles became a land surveyor, first working at Somerville Engineering and Surveyors. He later moved to Hancock Engineering and Surveyors in Danvers, where he worked until his retirement.
In 1986, Charles married his sweetheart, Carol A. Leary, and the two settled down in Somerville together. In 1996, they relocated to Malden. He enjoyed scuba diving, snow skiing, crosswords and math puzzles. Charlie is survived by his loving wife Carol, his sister Mary Wall and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden on Thursday, September 14th, with visitation beginning at 9 AM. Interment to follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
