Cheryl Crowell Obituary


Cheryl E. (Bowker) Crowell, a lifelong resident of Malden, passed away in Melrose on April 25th surrounded by loved ones at her side after a brief illness.   Cheryl was born in Malden in 1947, the daughter of Kenneth and Elva (LeMaire) Bowker.  She was raised and educated in Malden, graduating from Malden High School with the Class of 1965.  She then went on to college, starting at Mass Bay, and then transferring to Salem State University where she received her degree in Childhood Education.  She went on to work as a teacher at St. Mary's School in Beverly.   In June of 1969, Cheryl married her sweetheart, Lawrence H. Crowell.  She and Larry settled down in Malden to raise their family.  They shared over 52 years of marriage together.   Once they began having children, Cheryl stopped teaching full time, but she did continue to be a substitute teacher for the City of Malden.
Cheryl was an active member of the Order of the Amaranth in Malden, where she is a past Royal Matron. Passionate about genealogy and history Cheryl was an active member of the Historical Society of Boston, Lynnfield and Argyle Historical Society of Nova Scotia. Her time was also spent painting, she took many art classes over the years to help hone her skills. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Cheryl, like spending six months a year in Nova Scotia, where she was able to enjoy her blueberry fields, time with her dear friends and family playing countless hours of cards.
Cheryl is predeceased by both her parents Elva and Kenneth as well as her daughter Charlene Marie Crowell. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence H. Crowell, her daughters, Alyson T. Crowell of Malden and Elizabeth H. Blankenship and husband Keith of Hampton Falls, NH.  She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, which she was affectionately known as "Mimi", Jocelyn and husband Timothy, Mathew and fiancé Heather, Sarah and Daniel, and her great grandson, Colton.
