Deborah L. Gilchrist, a lifelong resident of Malden, passed away on Tuesday, July 15th, at the age of 71. Deborah was born in Malden in 1953, the daughter of Peter and Florence Matonis. She was raised and educated in Malden, graduating from Malden High School with the Class of 1971. She then went to work as a secretary for the John Hancock Life Ins company in Boston. She left the company after an unfortunate accident left her unable to continue working. She had a great love for animals, especially her own cats. She loved jewelry and had a desire to be a gemologist. She also loved animals and cats.
She is survived by her mother, Florence Matonis of Malden, her brother Frederick Weldy and wife Cheryl of Wakefield, her sister Lynda Garofano of Malden, and her nieces Rachel Thomas, Nicole Weldy, and Jessica Suslowicz.
Donations in Deborah's memory may be made to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970.
