Dolores A. (Moran) Makrys passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3rd at the age of 89, surrounded by family. A devoted and loving wife, mother, aunt and grandmother she most loved being called Dodie, Auntie Dodie, Ma or Gabby.
Dodie was born in Malden in 1937, the daughter of John and Mae Moran and the youngest of five girls. She graduated from Cheverus High School with the Class of 1955. Following high school she attended the Rittners School of Floral Design, which led to a lifelong passion for flower arranging and design.
In 1960, Dodie married the love of her life, George N. Makrys, and the two settled in Malden to raise their family. They shared 65 years of marriage together.
Dodie/Gabby walked through life with tenderness, dignity and grace, comforting and caring for so many over the years. We’ll forever treasure the memories of her wise and honest counsel; she always knew just what to say and just how to say it. She leaves a legacy of love and courageous kindness. And, we’d be remiss not to mention and celebrate her strong sense of fashion and high style. A sensibility that brought her joy till the very end.
Dodie is survived by her husband, George N. Makrys and her three children: Lisa Makrys and her spouse Karen McCormack of Stoneham; Nicholas Makrys and his spouse Deborah Makrys of Reading; Jessica Damon and her spouse Scott Richard of Reading; and five grandchildren: George Nicholas, Amanda “Mae”, Nicholas Andrew, Moran Dolores, and Hattie Jane.
Dodie was preceded in death by her sisters: Jane Walsh, Shirley Spinale, Catherine Traficante, and Marie Powers.
At the family’s request, all services will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
