Doris V. Ford
Doris V. (Pike) Ford, 86, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford after a long illness.
She was born March 25, 1925 in Chelsea, Massachusetts and was the daughter of Ambrose Pike and Elizabeth (Jeffers) Pike-Powell. Doris grew up for a time in Chelsea, and had moved to Malden before graduating from Malden High School with the class of 1943. After graduating from high school, Doris was employed with Continental Can Company in Malden before moving to a secretarial position for a book printing company in Cambridge. She then began working in Malden as a secretary for Attorney Conway. Doris and William Ford were married on October 14th, 1951 in Malden. They shared nearly 60 years together and would return to the White Mountains of NH to celebrate their anniversary every year. They also enjoyed spending their winters together in Florida. Doris was a longtime member of the Social Order of the Beauceant, Knights Templar, and was a long time dedicated member of the old Centre United Methodist Church in Malden Square. She was a strong supporter of the Home for Little Wanderers. In addition to traveling, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and dining out with her sister.
She is survived by her husband of 59 Years, William F. Ford, her nieces, Diane Roche and her husband James of Lynn, Linda Bruce and her husband Walter of Wilmington, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose Pike and Elizabeth Pike-Powell; and her siblings Elsie O'Neil, Chesley Pike, Warren Pike, Mildred P. Duggan, John Pike, and Virginia Pike.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 9th, at 10:00 AM at the Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden. Pastor Charles Hartman of the First United Methodist Church of Melrose will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery in Everett.
Visitation will be at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM .
