Edwin Hobart Obituary

Edwin T. Hobart, 86, of Peabody, MA passed away peacefully on May 3rd, 2026. Born and raised in the Boston area, Ed was the son of the late Eleanor (Brown) Hobart. Ed earned a bachelor’s degree from Suffolk University and dedicated his professional career to serving in business and financial roles including comptroller at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in Cambridge.

Ed lived his life as a testament to faith, compassion and service. Guided by his beliefs, he dedicated countless hours to his church and community. He found joy in fellowship and music, strength in prayer and purpose in helping and teaching others. He was an active member of his church, the First Baptist Church of Medford. For over 40 years, he served as the Executive Secretary of the Boston Baptist Social Union. He also served as Vice President, President and Board Member Emeritus of the Massachusetts Baptist Multicultural Ministries (MBMM).

Ed found enjoyment traveling the world and engaging in missionary work. He was also an avid collector, of everything, with a particular fondness for artwork.

Edwin is survived by his sister Eleanor (Hobart) Johnson (the late E. Ben Johnson) of Alabama. He leaves behind his nieces and nephews: Beth Winters (the late Ed Winters), Robert Johnson (Tina)  Michael Johnson (Diane) and Karen Lew Bouchard (Paul Duffy). Edwin also cherished his dear cousins, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, extended family and friends.

A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12th at 11am at the First Baptist Church of Medford, 34 Oakland St, Medford, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Massachusetts Baptist Multicultural Ministries (mbmm@mbmm.org) at 99 Church Street, Lowell, MA 01852.
