Florence G. (Springer) Black, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away on Monday, Feb 29th, in Melrose, MA. Florence was born in Cambridge in 1923, the daughter of Beresford and Viola (Barton) Springer. She was raised in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge Ringe and Latin with the Class of 1941. She soon married her sweetheart, James Black, and the two settled down in Malden together to raise their family. Once in Malden, Florence began working as a clerk for the Malden Trust company, she worked for the Bank for 25 years when she retired. . Florence and Jim shared 70 years together until his passing in 2011. Florence was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Malden. She loved poetry, enjoyed reading ,and liked to go dancing with her husband Jim.
She is survived by her children, Pamela V. Hooks of Malden, her grandchildren, Dianne, Renee', Tanya, Thomas and James, her great-grand-children, Shanta, Cory, Terrence, Breanna, Craig, Ariana, Jasmine, and Kyanna and her great-great-grandchildren, Sariya, Thomas, Cory Jr, Von and Azariah, as well as a host of other relatives.
Florence was preceded in death by her Husband Jim,her son James Black Jr., her brothers Nelson Springer, Harris Barton and Lloyd Springer, and her sister Eleanor Betts.
Funeral Services will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden on Sat, Mar 5, at 12 noon, with visitation from 10-12. Interment to follow in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody
