Irene Clarina Rogers
Irene C. (Haskins) Rogers of Malden passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2012 in the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, she was 80. Born on August 17, 1931 in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Roger E. Haskins, Jr. and Ida L. (Barnett) Haskins. Irene was raised and educated in Boston. She attended Roxbury Memorial High School before continuing her education at St. Joseph's Academy. In July of 1951, Irene married her sweet-heart, Frank C. Rogers. The couple spent the next thirty-eight years in marriage together, raising and caring for their family, until Frank's passing in September of 1989. Early on in her life, Irene worked for the Massachusetts General Hospital before becoming a full-time mom raising her six children. Much later in life, after her children were grown, Irene worked for Debonaire Cleaners in Malden then Salem Street Laundry before retiring. Irene was an avid reader and loved her dogs. Irene was a long-time community activist, most especially with the Malden Welfare Rights Organization. She had a true passion for people, for strangers, family and friends. Irene had a warm and loving soul for all.
She is survived by her children, Christina M. Haskins of Atlanta, GA, Anthony M. Rogers of Saugus, Angela J. Davis of Boston, Kevin F. Rogers of Lynn, Brian E. Rogers of Stow, and Gary P. Rogers of Malden, her siblings, Rogera E. Robinson of Brighton, Sally Conklin of Virginia, Dorothy E. Haskins of Boston, Roger E. Haskins, III of Peabody, and Veronica Haskins of North Carolina, as well as twenty-two grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held in the Weir - MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
Funeral services will be held in the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 20 Hillside Avenue, Malden on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 11 AM. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Rev. Wayne Gadie, Pastor of the Emmanuel Baptist Church will be officiating.
