Jean Prophete

Jean Rosefut Prophete, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 90 on Wednesday August 17th, 2022.  Jean was born in the town of Trouin, Haiti on December 30th, 1931 to his mother Marielie Dieudnonne and father Denis Prophete. He was the eldest of 9 children whom he helped raise and was like a father figure. He is preceded in death by his loving brother, Joseph and sister Roseanne.

Jean completed primary school near Trouin before moving to the capital, Port-au-Prince for his secondary education. As a young man, he had an enduring interest in theology which led him to attend seminary and in doing so, served as a lay minister for some time in Fond Parisien. Eventually, his career path led him to become an accounting manager at an artisanal factory. From there, he immigrated to the United States in 1971 in search of better opportunities.  He worked as a supervisor/auditor for an industrial sized factory up until retirement. 

He is survived by his two children, Karl and Marjorie; three granddaughters, Analisa, Laila and Samira; sisters, Virginie, Marthe and Elienne; nephews,  Julson, Lloyd, Billy, Patrick, Joseph and Marcus; nieces, Beatrice, Ruth, Joyce, Judy, Cassandra, Mathiana and Miriam.

Jean was a man of conviction, strong faith and a great work ethic with an irrepressible spirit.   He loved to read and stay informed and discuss current events of his adopted country and his beloved homeland of Haiti.  He will be greatly missed and reside in our hearts and minds forever.

Family and friends whose lives were touched by Jean are invited to attend a memorial service celebrating his life on Saturday, August 27th with a viewing at 9:00AM and ceremony immediately following at 10 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church - 26 Washington St, Malden, MA 02148

Internment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery -  302 Elm St, Everett, MA 02149.
