Joseph and Joyce (Hopkinson) Glionna, having shared 53 years of marriage together, both passed away on Thursday, June 23rd. Joyce was born in Newburyport in 1937, and at an early age moved to Malden, where she graduated from Malden High School with the Class of 1955. She then went on to work as an Executive Assistant for the Stone & Webster Engineering Firm. Joseph was born in Malden in 1936, and he too, was a graduate of Malden High School’s Class of 1955. He enlisted in the US Army after high school, and upon his return, became a teacher for the City of Malden. He taught Reading and English at the Brown Junior High School, and at Malden High School.
The two married in April of 1969, and immediately settled down in Malden together. They were dedicated member of the Maplewood Baptist Church in Malden, and very involved with many aspects of the Church life there. They also enjoyed summering on Cape Cod in their cabin in Falmouth.
They are survived by Josephs brother Raymond Glionna and his wife Terese of Malden, as well as many nieces and nephews.
They were preceded in death by Josephs siblings, George Glionna and John Glionna, and Joyce’s siblings Cynthia Hopkinson-Weightman, Alan Hopkinson, Richard Hopkinson, Irene Cann, Glen Armstrong, and Lois Armstrong.
Funeral services will be held at The First Church of the Nazarene 529 Eastern Ave, Malden, on Wed, June 29th, at 10 AM. Interment to follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
Visitation will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden. on Tues, June 28th, from 4 – 8 PM.
