Kevin C. Hickey

Kevin C. Hickey,  a retired guidance counselor for the Medford Vocational Technical High School, passed away on Sunday, April 24th,  after a lengthy illness.  Kevin was born in East Boston in 1948, the son of Charles and Mary Hickey.  He was raised in Medford, and graduated from Medford High School with the Class of 1966.  After high school he enlisted in the US Navy and served during the Vietnam War.  Upon his discharge, he attended Boston State College and Salem State University, first receiving his Bachelor of Science, and eventually earning his Masters Degree in Counselor Education.    He first worked as a Science teacher at the Medford “Voke” before becoming a Guidance Counselor.  He retired from the school in 2006.

In 1979, Kevin married his sweetheart, Therese B. Pavone, and the two spent a few years in Medford before relocating to Melrose in 1983.  He was member of the D.A.V., the  Knights of Columbus in Medford, and a past member of the Elks Lodge of Winthrop.  He was also a past member and President of the Makusue Ski Club in North Conway, NH.   Kevin  was also an active golfer who not only played golf but coached as well.  He also coached club hockey, and was a Lacrosse  referee.  In addition, Kevin was an avid fan and long time season ticket holder to the Boston Bruins.

He is survived by his wife, Therese B. (Pavone) Hickey, his siblings, Kathleen V. Lucas and husband Frank of Woburn, his twin Kerry C. Larkin and husband Kevin of Melrose, Brian J. Hickey and wife Maggie of Salisbury, as well as many nieces,  nephews, great nieces, great nephew, and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Kevin was preceded in death by his brother, William J. Hickey. 

Funeral from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden on Friday, Apr 29th, at 10:15 AM  followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Francis of Assisi Church, Medford, at 11:30 AM.   Committal will be private.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, April 28th, from 4 – 8 PM.
