Marjorie Claire Ward
January 17, 1954 – November 20, 2024 A.D
Marjorie C. Ward (70, Summerville, South Carolina) passed away on the night of November 20, 2024. Affectionately known as “Marjie,” she was born on January 17, 1954 to Roy and Barbara Buck (née Anderson) in Everett at Whidden Hospital. Marjie spent the first half of her life between Malden and Medford, graduating from Malden High School in 1973. She became a nurse’s aide and worked in this field for 30 years. Marjie passionately loved animals, especially horses, cats, and dogs. She enjoyed horseback riding and had an especial love for palomino horses. She loved visiting her family in Old Orchard Beach in Maine. She enjoyed organ music, liked to play the piano, and was active in many arts and crafts—the most notable being her sugar cube churches at Christmastime.
She married John R. Symonds on August 18, 1978 and had three children: Heather Marie (Peter) Lapierre, Kevin James Symonds, and David Michael Symonds. After John’s death in 1996, Marjie met Charles Douglas Ward and they married in 2004. Together, they relocated to Summerville, South Carolina. Now retired, Marjie spent the next 20 years enjoying trips to Maine and working on her arts and crafts. Unfortunately, her health declined in recent years and she passed away quietly, surrounded by her family in Summerville.
Marjie was predeceased by her first husband John (1996), her parents (Barbara-1985, Roy-1996), her son David (2021), and grandson Damian Laycox (2017). She is survived by her husband, Charles Ward of Summerville, her daughter Heather (Peter) Lapierre, also of Summerville, her son, Kevin Symonds, her granddaughter Chloe Aiello of Beverly, MA, brother and sister-in-law, Michael Ward and Karen Schaffer of San Jose, CA, sister-in-law Marsha Ward of Alexandria, VA, and many cousins.
The funeral will be at the Weir Mac Cuish Funeral Home in Malden, MA on December 2, 2024. The wake/viewing will be from 9-11 a.m., followed by a blessing and remembrance from 11-12. Procession from the funeral home to Woodlawn Cemetery for the burial in Everett will be from 12-1 p.m. A private reception, for family only, will take place following the burial.
Marjie requested donations be made in her name to Dorchester Paws, 136 Four Paws Lane, Summerville, SC 29483 (EIN: 57-0620182), 843-871-3820.
