Mary L. (Coffey) Martel, a longtime resident of Everett, passed away on Thursday, September 26th, with her loving family by her side. Mary was born in Everett in 1944, the daughter of James and Eleanore Coffey. She was raised in Malden, attending the St. Josephs School and then Girls Catholic, where she graduated with the Class of 1962. She then attended Business School in Boston before becoming a secretary. She first worked as a secretary for a local painting company, before taking employment with Everett’s Mayor Connolly. She worked for the city for nearly a decade, and then for Catalado Ambulance, and finally Citizens Bank where she retired from.
In May of 1965, Mary married her sweetheart, Edmond L. Martel in St. Josephs Church in Malden. The two settled down in Everett to raise their family. They shared nearly 60 years of marriage together. Mary was extremely involved in her community and in local politics. She also adored her grandchildren and loved doting on them.
She is survived by her husband Edmond L. Martel Sr, her children, Edmond L. Martel Jr. of Gorham, ME and Karen Sanchez of Tampa, FL, her brother, James Coffey of New Port Richey, FL. Her grandchildren, Cassaundra, Samuel, Isaac, Haley, and Ava, and her cherished cousin, Helene Duffy of Billerica.
Funeral services will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem ST, Malden on Saturday, October 5th,at 10:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Josephs Church, Malden, at 11:00 AM.
Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 4th, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.
