Mary T. (Cormier) O’Leary, a longtime resident of Medford, passed away on Sunday, March 6th, after a brief illness. Mary was born in Cambridge in 1925, the daughter of Martin and Elizabeth Cormier. She was raised in Malden, and graduated from the Cheverus School with the Class of 1943. In 1948, she married her sweetheart, Eugene F. O’Leary. They soon settled down in Medford where they raised their family. They shared nearly 65 years of marriage together until Eugene’s’ passing in 2012.
Mary worked for many years at First National Grocery, working in many different rolls until becoming the office manager of the grocery store. She worked as manager at the Wellington Circle location until their closing in the early 80’s.
Mary was a dedicated member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Medford, She was also an active member and Past Commander of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 45 in Medford. Mary was a dedicated supporter of many veterans groups, volunteering at different VA facilities and the Chelsea Soldiers Home. She was active with Knots of Love, a knitting organization that donated hand made hats to premature babies, active solders, and cancer patients.
She is survived by her son, Kevin E. O’Leary and wife Kim of Haverhill, her grandchildren, Eric Baurichter, Jason O’Leary and wife Meredith, and Koren O’Leary, and her great-great grandchildren Ashley, Fiona, Samantha, and Myles.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, her daughter, Barbara R. Baurichter, and her siblings, Martin Cormier, Rita Sullivan, and William F. Cormier
Funeral services will be held from the Weir – MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden on Friday, March 11th, at 8:45 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford. Interment to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 10th, from 4 – 8 PM.
