Mrs. Eleanor Louise Cooper
Eleanor Louise Cooper, 94, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away a on Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Leonard Florence Center of Living in Chelsea.
Eleanor was born in Boston in 1916, the daughter of Edward C and Margaret G. Walsh. She was raised in Chelsea and graduated from St. Rose School with the class of 1936. It was in Chelsea where she met her sweetheart, Aidan T. Cooper. They were married in Baltimore MD in 1938. They first lived in Everett, before settling down in Malden nearly 60 years ago. When the US entered into WWII, Aidan went to help our countries fight, and volunteered Eleanor as a "Gray Lady" assisting hospitalized servicemen. Aidan returned from his service time and the two remained in Malden to raise their family. They shared over 60 years together until Aidan's passing in the year 2000. Eleanor was a Communicant of Immaculate Conception Church for nearly 60 years.
She is survived by her daughters Marquerite M. Cooper of Malden, and Jean E. Mayes of VA, and son Aidan Cooper Jr. of Quincy, her grandchildren, Christopher and Daniel Tolliver, as well as several great grandchildren.
Eleanor was preceded in death by husband, Aidan T. Cooper, her parents, Edward and Margaret (Dooley) Walsh; her 2 brothers Edward Walsh, her Joseph Walsh and her grandson, Bryan Tolliver.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Eleanor in Sacred Hearts Church on Saturday, Mar 12, at 11AM. The procession will form at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, with visitation beginning at 9:30AM. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
