Patrick S. Courtney, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away suddenly on Monday, February 26th. Patick was born in Somerville in 1970, the son of John and Eleanor Courtney. He was raised in Somerville, graduating from Somerville High School with the Class of 1989. He went to work for MIT for a time, and had most recently been working at Walmart in their meat department. Patrick had been a past member of the Moose Lodge of Malden.
He is survived by his siblings, John J. Courtney III and wife Jennifer of Dracut, Michael D. Courtney and wife Lana of Lawrence, Patricia Courtney of Everett, Kathleen Carlson and husband Steven of Malden, Linda Abele and husband Eric of Tewskbury, and Joseph Courtney and wife Debra of Texas, his niece Jamie Courtney of Everett who was like a sister to him, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eleanor Courtney, and his brother, Thomas P. Courtney.
Funeral services will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden on Monday, March 4th, at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Josephs Church, Malden, at 10 AM. Interment in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, will take place at a later date.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, March 3rd, from 4 – 8 PM.
