Robert L. Hatch, a longtime resident of Medford, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 28th. He was 100 years old. Known to most as Bob and Uncle Sonny to his many nieces and nephews, Robert was born in Melrose in 1925, the son of Horace and Sarah Hatch. The second youngest of 10 children, Robert was raised and educated in Melrose, a town he loved and forever considered his home. During WWII, he enlisted in the Merchant Marines, receiving an honorable discharge due to health reasons. After his service, he returned to Melrose, and in 1944, he married his sweetheart, Marilyn June Ray. They lived and raised their 4 daughters in Melrose, North Reading, and Medford. Robert and Marilyn shared 58 years of marriage until her passing in 2002.
Later in life, Robert attended Wentworth Institute, where he studied construction supervising, building, and planning. Robert was a highly respected contractor and skilled carpenter. With his larger-than-life personality and kindness, he was adored by friends, neighbors, healthcare workers, and anyone who knew him, including the many homeowners he worked with over the years.
He is survived by his children Roberta Robdau and her husband Edward of Boynton Beach, Florida, Sandra Belmonte and her husband Kenneth of Medford, Cynthia Hatch-Amberg and her husband Louis of Groveland. He is predeceased by his dear daughter, Linda Marcellino, who passed in 2022. Robert also leaves behind six grandchildren, Pamela Silver, Kimberly O’Connor and her husband Jeffrey, Lisa O’Leary and her husband Robert, Robert Robdau and his wife Nicole, Kelly Deal, Kristina Marcellino, and five great-grandchildren.and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Services are private. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
