Roderick MacDonald, III Obituary

Roderick C. MacDonald, III passed away in the Massachusetts General Hospital on Monday, February 20, 2012, he was 59 years old. Born on April 28, 1952 in Boston, the son of Pauline (Hansen) MacDonald-Gately and the late Roderick C. MacDonald, Jr. Roddy was raised and educated in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School with the Class of 1970. Rod worked for many years as a welder and crane operator and as a carpenter. His work even took him to help on the Big Dig project in Boston.

Roddy loved music and was very musically inclined. He was able to play just about any instrument he picked up. He was an avid reader and enjoyed sailing and traveling on his motorcycle. His travels also took him to destinations that he loved to camp at with his motor home. He was also a member of the Malden East Side A.A.

Roddy is survived by his mother Pauline (Hansen) MacDonald-Gately of Carver, his step-siblings, William Gately of Holbrook, Linda Tidwell of Quincy, Robert Gately of Malden, Brian Gately of Pembroke, and Kathleen Belcher of Plymouth as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roderick C. MacDonald, Jr., his brother, David B. MacDonald, and his step-father, Thomas H. Gately, Jr.

Visitation will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden, on Sunday, February 26 from 4 to 8 PM.

A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, February 27 at 10 AM. Rev. Chuck Hartman will be officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
