Ruth Alice Quinton

Ruth A. (Ross) Quinton of Malden, died in her home on Friday, March 30, 2012, she was 89. Born on July 18, 1922 in Everett, she was the daughter of the late Gordon Ross, Sr. and Mary C. (Johnston) Ross. Ruth was raised and educated in Everett. On November 11, 1944, Ruth married her sweetheart, William H. Quinton in Everett and the couple settled in Everett to begin their lives together. They eventually moved to Malden where the remained to raise and care for their family. Ruth and William spent over 44 years in marriage together until William's passing in 1988. Ruth was a hardworking person; she worked in an apron factory making aprons prior to her marriage. She also volunteered time as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts Troop #609 in Malden through 1958. She eventually went to work for Raymond's Store in Malden in the shoe department from 1965 to 1969. Her passion for knitting lead her to open her own store in Maple Square in the early 1970's. Her shop, "Knit and Purl" was open from 1971 to 1975. Through all her life's interests, Ruth's true passion had always been spending time with her loving family.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Bette A. Bergh and her husband, Arthur of Malden, her son, William G. Quinton of Fairfield, CA, her grandchildren, Christopher Bergh and his wife, Ann Weaver of Jamaica Plain, Kerri Weiden and her husband, Robert of Reading, and Matthew Quinton of Davis, CA, her great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Brendan Weiden of Reading and Aidan and Nathaniel Quinton of Davis, CA as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her seven siblings, Alfred Ross, Eleanor Cook, Dorothy Freelove, Ethel Fisher, Margaret Thibault, Gordon Ross, Jr. and Betty Ratti.

Funeral from the Weir - MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Church, 770 Salem Street, Malden at 10 AM. Fr. William J. Minigan, Pastor of St. Joseph's Church will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Monday, April 2, 2012 from 4 to 8 PM.
