Shirley Fowler Obituary

Shirley B. (O’Brien) Fowler, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away on Friday, November 29th, in Melrose.   Shirley was born in Somerville in 1927, the daughter of William and Beatrice O’Brien.  She was raised and educated in Somerville, and after completing her education she went to work for Metro Politia Lithograph at their locations in Everett and Medford.  Later she worked in production at the Schraffts Candy Company.   In 1956, she married her sweetheart George R. Fowler in Nashua, NH.  The two settled down in Malden to raise their family.  They shared 63 years of marriage until Georges passing in 2019.    She stayed at home during the days raising their children, but still worked nights at the Schraffts company.  

She is survived by her daughter, Louise Dickinson  of MI, and her grandson, Frederick Hutchins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband George, her daughter Marion D. Fowler,  her brothers Edward Mills and Richard O’Brien, and her sister, Elizabeth T. O’Brien.

Visitation will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden,  on  Wednesday, December 11th,  from 6 – 8 PM.  A graveside service will be held at Puritan Lawn Cemetery, 185 Lake St, Peabody on Thursday,  December 12th, at 11 AM.
