Wesley E. "Wes" Anderson, Jr.
Wesley E. "Wes" Anderson, Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 20, 2012 in the Grosvenor Park Nursing Center in Salem, MA, he was 78. Born in Malden on July 16, 1934, he was the son of the late Wesley E. Anderson, Sr. and Helena (Spinney). Wes was raised and educated in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School. Wes went to work for a family business, Hicks and Hodges Co. meat store located in Faneuil Hall in Boston as a meat cutter. He worked for many years as a meat cutter, including Cambridge Packing Co. in Boston from where he retired at the age of 65. Wes married his sweetheart, Doris J. O'Brien, on November 14, 1959 and the couple settled briefly in Somerville before moving to their home in Malden where they resided for over 46 years. Wes and Doris spent over 52 years in marriage together, raising and caring for their family until Doris' passing in March of this year.
Wes was an avid sports fan, especially for the Boston teams. He also loved to play cribbage. Wes had a true passion for cooking. While serving in the National Guard, he was the appointed cook and loved to prepare food for the men. His cooking skills continued to bloom throughout his life as he relished cooking for his family, friends, and neighbors. He also prepared many meals for the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church where he and Doris were both active members. Through all of his life's passions, Wes' true love was always spending time and enjoying the company of his family and friends. Affectionately known as "Bumpy", Wes absolutely adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wes is survived by his children, Wesley E. "Andy" Anderson, III of Saugus, James K. Anderson and his wife, April of Malden, Christine J. Talbot and her husband, Benjamin of Peabody, David B. Anderson and his wife Linda of Tewksbury, and Julie L. Anderson and her boyfriend, Robert Simboli as well as his daughter, Alison of Wakefield, his grandchildren, Nicole, Bobbi-Lynn, James, Brian, David, and Kevin, his great-grandchildren, Arycelis and Alex, his wonderful sisters, Jean Fenderson and her husband, Charles of Meredith, NH, June Sandoe and her husband, Ernest of Ft. Myers, FL and his brother-in-law, Kenneth O'Brien and his wife, Nancy of Newburgh, NY. Wes is also survived by many nieces, nephews, close neighbors and friends.
A funeral service for Wes will be held in the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 577 Salem Street, Malden on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 10 AM. Interment will follow in the Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. Rev. Nizzi Digan, Pastor of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church will be officiating.
Visitation will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 4 to 8 PM.
